Hell no. Zack and Nate are worse, for a start.

Well he went for a 6th at the deadline.

Buff doesn't know what they're doing either, so I take it with a grain of salt. No doubt my eyes are hungry in a prediction of a 2nd, but a 3rd? The right GM could do it, IMO.

Yeah, GM salaries aren't necessarily what people expect.

I don't remember if this was public info or scuttlebutt, but when Holland signed with Edmonton, he supposedly got 5 x 5. That was a market reset the way Babcock was in Toronto for coaches. Obviously that wasn't very long ago.

I'm going to assume Lou, Holland (I read his possible salary), Yzerman pull in what a top coach makes. Maybe Poile, Armstrong a step down; they're the longest tenured.......who knows case by case?

I think the threshold is just higher in cachet for a manager pulling what every Tom, Dick, and French Alan makes. Someone like Ken Holland, senile idiot as he may be, was about as high on the pedestal as it gets for the NHL community when he jumped ship. I'm talking out my ass, but I imagine, moving past the outliers, average NHL coaches make more than average GMs. We can talk about coaches having a bigger public role, the idea that they have more tangible "talents" than a paper pusher. I'm not saying I subscribe to that.

Not sure if this was discussed. From the trade rumors forum. I would be curious to hear what he’s actually saying.

Kyper on FAN 960 talking like it’s a forgone conclusion Gaudreau is a Flyer. I wish that I recorded it. He spoke like it was pretty certain ? At the very least he spoke like Gaudreau is gone from Calgary. Can’t remember exact words he used , however it was in response to Eric Francis asking him what the biggest news story will be come Wednesday evening . Kyprios said that it’s Gaudreau is a Flyer . Then went on to say along the lines of it reminded him of how Tavares played it out before going to Toronto

It would be Very Flyersy to sign a guy for a 115 pt performance on an aggressive team only for him to revert to sub-ppg years on a talent-starved team pretending it's 1999.

It’s the ultimate buying high scenario. Taking away his age, the huge holes that this team has elsewhere…

This is not a guy you pay that kind of money to. I don’t see it. Let someone else go out, and pay through the nose for him. This is going to become an albatross sooner than later.

Daring to look a little at the Flyers actual current situation this is not the time to go all in, in such a way. They are going to try to force this thing forward, and get f***ed. This is the price you pay when you can’t properly commit to drafting, and developing your own stars.

Trading JVR and retaining some salary should be possible. 1 year is a safe risk.
I don’t think they want to retain any. They need all of it gone, they have to sign another defenseman and goaltender too. Oh, and Deslauriers.

It’s just timing. It’s not the best time to move him.

They aren’t close enough to anything worth a damn to realistically have to do so. It’s an internal belief, that’s frankly quite misguided.

It’s a trend that continues when Ristolainen made it so clear. Why were the blinders on so snugly that waiting for a more opportune moment wasn’t the smarter decision?

The team could have chased Manson in UFA for the same level of performance, and kept the picks.

You can’t force things, and expect success. It’s screams of unrelenting ego.

I don’t get the hype about Gaudreau.

Not many guys live up to these mega deals, but he doesn’t tickle my fancy - even placing the Flyers cap issues aside.

This is the wrong player to chase imo.
Its a unique situation. Normally, when the Flyers go after a big player they have to overpay. If his heart really is set on playing here because of his connections to the area... he will probably come at a discount. If he wasnt from the area, theyd probably have to offer in the 11 mil aav range to get him... but if this is where he wants to be, I could see in the 8-9 range.

A player with his talents who wants to play here and is willing to take a pay cut is just too good to say no to.

In 5 years, I think a 35 year old Coots and Johnny will still be pretty damn good players. G was 34 this past year and still played great.

Agree unless the salary cap magically disappears and he comes with an extended Tkatchuk.

I’d call him on his bluff. If he wants to come here that badly? Then come for a little less.

To come at what’s being rumoured I think is just dumb for the player that he is. I’m not one of the stats guys, or pretend to study him in detail. I’m just not very impressed by his play I suppose.

Funny, because I’m usually all for being willing to pay money for what are actually star players. I just don’t think he’s a smart buy.

I know they are against a rebuild. I’m trying to accept that, but Gaudreau is not the guy. Maybe he proves me wrong.

They are setting themselves up to be a team lead by Gaudreau, Couturier, and Hayes. I don’t buy that shit for a second. Even if he’s a good player, the overall mix - and cap allocation is so strange.

Is Thompson still in the league? MacEwen seems pretty close to Deslauriers. I’d almost prefer Thompson. He’d be cheaper and accepting of a 1 year deal.

I want them to sign Gaudreau. I’m tired of watching non skilled slobs on this team. I want to be entertained.

Now what I don’t want them to do is sign him by the means that they’re going to do and have done to get to this point.

It was so simple. No Risto and No DeAngelo. Voila.

And yet here we are. It’s infuriating.

Just wait for them to keep JVR, buyout Lindblom, then trade TK & Provorov for Tyler Myers and Tanner Pearson
