Again, not seeing the issue.

Flyers have the space to sign Gaudreau.

Ellis, LTIR, hey, try to come back for the playoffs.

So you’re at 76M.

Then you buy out Lindblom & even if you buy out JVR, he + Lindblom are 6M.

Now you’re at 70M. Gaudreau gets 11. You’re 81. 1.5 under the cap.

Lou will always do what he has to do.

I mean sure but if it's about the Flyers he choses the Flyers. If it's about coming home and getting paid then the Devils likely match what the Isles would be offering and would probably be the more enticing option than the Isles.

I don’t doubt that, I’m just saying Lou’s gonna do Lou when push comes to shove.

How many healthy forwards do you have in that lineup?

And if I remember correctly, they made the decision to re-sign him after the 1 good game he had against Washington.

They threw away an entire careers worth of crap and signed a player based off of one good game.

No wonder Chuckles didn't win GM of the year

they signed him because no other NHL team wanted him..

why do you think he resigned here for cheaper and after saying he wanted to play for a PO bound team..

the only team stupid enuf to offer him a new deal was Fletchers shitshow...

You know things are bad when Flyers fans don’t want a hometown star player to come home. How many players from the area have been as good as JG? I’d be happy to sign him just based on that…not sure I’d be happy about the trades we’d make to do it tho.

As much as it doesn’t make sense to building a true contender.

Why stop at JG? Cherry Hill native Bobby Ryan is a UFA as well…

Nothing ground breaking but Friedman said the Flyers are getting squeezed for a JvR trade. The league knows their situation & is using that leverage against them. He said then Flyers have other players out there now in trades too to see what they can do (didn’t mention names). He said the Flyers have limit for what they can offer Gaudreau.

He talked about Giroux. He mentioned Florida, Ottawa, & Edmonton. He said Florida wants him back & they’re gonna try to move some things around to make it work. He said if that can happen he thinks Giroux is back in Florida.
Thanks. Significant that other players may be traded for hopefully strong value without cap, ie draft picks. If we trade Provy for straight picks I think it should be a nice return.

Johnny is a top 10 player since he entered the league. Any team should absolutely be looking into signing him. The hometown angle is the cherry on top. How he ages? Idk that we've seen a physical comp like him so it's hard to say. I'm inclined to believe skill and smarts age better than anything else, but he relies on his quicks and shiftiness A LOT so you wonder how that looks at the end of this.

Plus if the team doesn't sign him, just think of all the shit they are going to buy with that ~10 million they cleared.

It was so simple. No Risto and No DeAngelo. Voila.
Me thinks the DeAngelo trade/signing was leading up to Johnny. Either as a way to entice him to come play with another friend or they already have an inclination he's signing here and this is a bit of a favor.

Flyers fans what's the odds Hart ever returns to form? Do you think he fully rebounds to his first 2 seasons or is he Matt Murray 2.0?

Hart is fine. I don’t think there was ever a big issue there. Bad coaching and defense was and is the issue. Goalies are hard to predict and there appears to be some good ones in the division so the shine may have worn off a bit for Hart. I am ok trading him for the right overpayment.

That’s a reasonable thought that I didn’t necessarily think of. Time will tell.

I shudder to think what they would spend that money on besides Gaudreau.

You crack me right the hell up. There's no way this front office is doing any of this. They're trying to trade JVR just so they can launch into a different bad contract. Hayes is unmoveable. Risto is unmoveable. Couturier is your best bet for a trade chip to get value and clear space, along with Provorov, Sanheim, and TK.

There's a third option for Sanheim. I don't think there's a chance in hell he extends. The writing is on the wall and he's out of here, but if we're close to a playoff spot, we'll hang onto him rather than trade him, because we HAVE to make the playoffs. Then we lose him for nothing in the off-season.

facts check out...

Would Marty St Louis be a comparable size wise? I mean I know he's a little smaller than Marty, but Marty also aged well

Bought low: Ellis, Niskanen maybe? They had some good points about how he was much better in the 2nd half than the 1st the previous year. Count Atkinson however you want? At absolute best, it's a wash to me because they sold low on the asset he cost.

Bought high: Hayes, Braun, Risto, DeAngelo, Hartman. I have no idea how to categorize Talbot. I will argue to the death that Laughton should count here as well.

Sold low: Voracek, Hagg, Gostisbehere, Stolarz, Simmonds, Gudas, JVR?

Sold high: I have some bad news.

Just by quantity of moves in each category, it's unsustainable.
chuck has no idea what sell high even means....

St. Louis had the famous quads.

That is not Johnny.

His first 8 full years are better than Giroux's first 8, so I think you're looking at resetting the clock a bit and probably looking at a better version of Giroux over the last ~5 years? He'll be 35 by the end of the contract, which I don't think is that bad (draft young players).
