Feel like more than just Lindblom and JvR need to go to be able to fit Gaudreau, they still have to sign Frost and Tippett for the foreseeable future, they still have to have a backup if its Sandstrom or Fedotov figures a way to get here that's fine but its still space. York and Sanheim will need to be extended next season, and Hart and Brink will need to be extended the year after that. Where is the money for a big splash signing coming from?

Edit: I guess if Ellis is LTIR that's where the money comes from, for now at least. If he ever actually gets healthy though they would be screwed.

I don't think the Flyers can bring in JG, so they're most likely to still move guys out so they have the space required to bring in cheap trashy veterans. Fletcher's eyes are drying out staring at potential lineups full of unacceptable youth.

And knowing Chuck, has no comprehension on how to bring in good picks. He has no comprehension on having ANY picks.

So basically, we should write off Chuck ever trading for picks.

After working my way through this thread, two things stand out. First of all, it could be that Provorov is the odd man out on the blue line. Not only has his play declined here over the last few seasons but he really has become a roadblock to the development of other players. ie.-Sanheim should be top pair LHD not him; others could fill in at second pair LHD.
Secondly, Ellis' hip problem didn't just suddenly appear in the fourth game of the last season. The Flyers' medical staff messed up once again. If the hip damage is as severe as reported, a quality physical should have found it. Misdiagnoses such as these have really hurt the club over the last decade.

If they waive JVR and Oskar and no one claims them, believe that frees up around $7.750M in cap.
Stand corrected they only get 1.125M relief per contract.

So here's where we're at: I will get more satisfaction by watching this team crash and burn while Cuck and Scott set the Guinness world record for most egg on face than i will if the Flyers somehow inexplicably are really good this year. Think 2019-20 good, which is probably their ceiling. That being said, i will still get some satisfaction out of watching this team win games.

With each mind-meltingly dumb move they make in free agency, the amount of enjoyment i get out of them winning decreases.

If we somehow end up in a scenario where this team ACTUALLY MANAGES TO LAND JOHNNY HOCKEY and i am somehow unhappy with it because of the path that it takes to get there (let's say... another "Ghost special" with JVR, waiving Lindblom, another "Jake for Cam" type trade where Provy and/or TK gets dealt for a similar underachiver with a slightly cheaper cap hit) then i think i may have reached the moment where i won't be able to root for this team at all. Hell, if they do ditch Lindblom for cap space, that might cause somehow an even greater outcry among the fans than the G trade. I really don't know how they could justify that.

So capfriendly updated DeAngelo’s contract into their system. Just to give you an idea what the situation they’re currently up against.

Capfriendly essentially filled out the roster with cheap contracts to give an outlook on what the potential outlook could be on the cap situation. So guys like Frost, Tippett, & MacEwen aren’t factored in without contracts. So they essentially used guys like Brink, Cates, Brown, etc. who are under contract. So you’re not getting a real notable difference swing. If anything the first group could exceed a bit over the max ELC of $925K.

So they essentially have us down with 11 forwards, 8 defensemen, & 2 goalies. Now Farabee & Ellis factor into that. So the cap space is like $200K with that roster. The Flyers still need to be compliant the opening night so Ellis & Farabee’s full caphits have to stay on for that & then can be shifted to the LTIR the following da to gain so relief.

So the Flyers are absolutely gonna have to clear JvR’s full contract & someone else just to have a chance at signing Gaudreau, filling out the rest of the roster, & being compliant for opening night. Even then I’m not really sure if it works. They’ve backed themselves into a corner & continue to have this insane outlook that all is well.

It just shows the asinine mindset of this organization. Half of the roster is going to likely be young guys by default given the cap issues which you’d be more accustomed to seeing on a team going through a rebuild. Yet they’re spending all these assets & trying to move capspace so they can sign a big fish in free agency as if they’re a Cup contender & this is that final piece to potentially put them over.

as always, spot on assessment. It blows my mind that these f***ers in the front office continue to go deeper and deeper down this path.

Tippett's agent is incompetent if he doesn't get him overpaid. Tippett has the leverage. Fletcher needs to keep the guy he traded Giroux for.
He’s an RFA who scored 21 points in 63 games. That’s not going to get much in arbitration.

I think you'll be shocked when you see Hayes and JG walking into camp holding hands

Might not be a bad cheap option.

Chicago’s really stripping it down there though. They walked away from Kubalik who’s not that bad either as a depth player.

I think he had 11 hits last year, definately not a Torts player, so it's a strong bet Chuck signs him anyway. He loves bringing in the opposite type players for his mantra

I dont think either would be fit

Kubalik has regressed since his rookie year and seems to do nothing great and is too much of a perimeter player. If you have a good playmaking C to feed him puck maybe, he rediscovers his scoring touch but IMO it feels like teams adjusted to his game and he has struggled to counter that

Strome has offensive talent and has greatly improved at faceoffs but on flip side he is complete defensive liability, soft and inconsistent effort wise which would put him in Torts doghouse pretty quickly IMO. He is also one of the slowest players in NHL

I could see a shake up in the forwards before moving Provy.
JVR waived for the roughly $1MM savings although I thought it would be closer to $3MM.
Trade Konecny to MIN for Greenway +. Saves $2MM. Add size and toughness but lose scoring.
Move Lindblom’s contract.
LTIR Ellis saves $6.5MM.
Sign Nino Neidereitter $6MM x 3yrs. Make up for Konecny’s scoring.
Sign Jan Rutta (probably won’t happen so settle for Gudbranson)

Blackhawks are clearly all-in on Bedard, but you still need guys to play. That’s the way I’m looking at it.

Torts doesn't value hitting, look at the hits numbers on his CBJ team.
He values physical forwards who can skate and forecheck, but not hitting for hitting sake.
"Hard to play against" means 200 foot pressure, not cheap shots.
