Surely we are going to put Provorov and York together after their strong finish to the end of the year.

So as of now we have this.

van Riemsdky - Couturier - Konecny
Lindblom - Hayes - Atkinson
xxx - Laughton - xxx
xxx - xxx - xxx

Farabee on IR
Options - Frost, Tippett, Brown, Cates, Allison, etc.

Provorov - DeAngelo
Sanheim - Ristolainen
York - xxx
Seeler

Ellis on IR
Options - Attard, Zamula, & a UFA

Hart
xxx

Options - Sandstrom & a UFA

They’re gonna have to default all those xxx spots to guys on ELC’s or making money comparative to that.

***That’s not actual lines or spots in the lineup it’s just a depth chart more or so based on contracts just to illustrate the type of contracts they’ll have.

So capfriendly updated DeAngelo’s contract into their system. Just to give you an idea what the situation they’re currently up against.

Capfriendly essentially filled out the roster with cheap contracts to give an outlook on what the potential outlook could be on the cap situation. So guys like Frost, Tippett, & MacEwen aren’t factored in without contracts. So they essentially used guys like Brink, Cates, Brown, etc. who are under contract. So you’re not getting a real notable difference swing. If anything the first group could exceed a bit over the max ELC of $925K.

So they essentially have us down with 11 forwards, 8 defensemen, & 2 goalies. Now Farabee & Ellis factor into that. So the cap space is like $200K with that roster. The Flyers still need to be compliant the opening night so Ellis & Farabee’s full caphits have to stay on for that & then can be shifted to the LTIR the following da to gain so relief.

So the Flyers are absolutely gonna have to clear JvR’s full contract & someone else just to have a chance at signing Gaudreau, filling out the rest of the roster, & being compliant for opening night. Even then I’m not really sure if it works. They’ve backed themselves into a corner & continue to have this insane outlook that all is well.

It just shows the asinine mindset of this organization. Half of the roster is going to likely be young guys by default given the cap issues which you’d be more accustomed to seeing on a team going through a rebuild. Yet they’re spending all these assets & trying to move capspace so they can sign a big fish in free agency as if they’re a Cup contender & this is that final piece to potentially put them over.

Imagine trading for DeAngelo and extending him BEFORE trying to sign Gaudreau

This tells me one of 3 things..

1 - They really are that f***ing stupid
2 - They already know they are out on Gaudreau
3 - They are in on Gaudreau and have a fallback trade lined up for JVR and it's going to be very painful - they'll try to find a better one but it's on the table no matter what

Actually it can be 2 of the 3 above with number 1 being a lock

They'll trade the Florida pick to dump JVR so they can sign Gaudreau, with the logic being that it's like they traded Giroux for Gaudreau, with Tippet as a throw-in. Unimpeachable asset management.

How was the rest of our draft?
Tall, apparently.

Yeah so I guess capfriendly just fills out everybodies roster with what contracts are on the books so it gives you more of representation of what the cap space is actually like. For example without it a team may read $20M in cap space but that’s with half the roster not filled out so even if done cheaply that number might actually be closer to $10M.

So they’re essentially using organizational placeholders. For the Flyers they got Brink, Cates, & Brown upfront. Attard & Seeler on the backend. Fedotov as the backup. Obviously it’s looking like Fedotov’s probably not going to play but that’s essentially a $925K cap hit placeholder. Sandstrom is $775K if you just switch him there so the savings are negligible in the grand scheme.

They couldn’t even fill out a full roster with the Flyers. They essentially have 11F 8D 2G with that. Farabee is one of the forwards & Ellis is one of the defensemen. The Flyers will get their roster spots for the opening season roster but not the cap relief. So the Flyers are essentially 2 forward spots short & have like a little over $200K to spend on currently.

i think their strategy going into this off-season was to get all the local players and their thought was "surely the fans can't boo hometown players" ...oh you didn't know?

Camp roster.

Rochette is somewhat interesting. Former top prospect that never got picked. Primeau’s son is a decent college player who might get interest. Tinling was a big scorer in midget and then went to Vermont a year early where they don’t score. Pehrson was York’s partner at Michigan. Perets had amazing numbers for Quinnipiac but may just be a system goalie.

I don’t see Ginning or Andrae. Pretty lackluster roster.

I think we need that gif but it’s Hextall blowing up Fletcher’s office with Clarke and Holmgren being the henchmen.

I honestly hate being back in this predicament. Every year with Homer we use to do this shit with the opening night roster because he never left himself any capspace to spare. He’d blow through the 10% over summer number then have to juggle with some LTIR situations which would just lead to more blunders.

I know that lol but he has value is what I'm saying
He’s still 33 with 3 years left at 5.875m. I don’t think that contract has a lot of value right now. Same with Jake. They had good seasons, not great ones, and more than likely aren’t going anywhere until the deadline of their UFA year.

As always in the Provorov era, there's no clear fit for him. York might work, but dislikes playing on the right.

The Flyers seem deadset on Sanheim-Risto, but I think Sanheim would be a great partner for DeAngelo.

There will almost certainly be more moves, so speculating on D pairs now probably is a futile effort, anyway.
The problem is that Provy-Risto was a tire fire in their small sample together.

My guess is they pay to trade JVR, and pay to trade Lindblom or buy him out.

There's your $10M to sign Gaudreau.

Smart GMs get depressed assets on bargain deals and maximize value.

Fletcher gets overvalued assets after their peak and pays through all orifices to get it done.

I posted that list of Fletch transactions so far as Flyer GM... and there were maybe 2-3 decent to good transactions. This weekend didn't help that ratio, and in all likelihood it will get worse next week.

If Ellis is on LTIR they will have quite a lot of space. Even before doing anything with JVR or Lindblom.

I show the Flyers with about $4.5m in cap space with Ellis on LTIR.

It’s not really that complicated. Half the league was on LTIR last season.

I wonder if Chuck is looking at Josh Anderson if Gaudreau doesn't happen. Montreal seems up to moving him, and I think would take JVR back given the disparity in term.
