I'd guess TK if they sign Johnny. I was half listening but Fletcher kept talking about Sanheim and Provorov in his press conference today. Without looking, that has to be the one of the most expensive D groups in the league.

I looked into this earlier because I had the same thought. The Flyers, Bruins, and Sharks are grouped at the top.

Well technically Vegas is #1, but that's counting Weber so I tossed it out.

How many 2nd rd picks were on the Avs?

XGA/60:
Cole 2.20
Slavin 2.40
Smith 2.49
Bear 2.54
DeAngelo 2.60
Skjei 2.71
Peace 2.72

DeAngelo is a wild ass gamble, but I can't imagine they did this without Torts signing off - because it's almost a guarantee this deal gets Fletcher fired if Torts decided DeAngelo is an awful fit.

From a talent point of view, he's a major upgrade over broken down Ghost, he produced on a real team and he's only 26.
He was drafted just after Sanheim and is as talented, you want puck moving D-men, now you have two.
And it almost certainly means they've given up on Ellis. At least for next year.

From every other point of view, it's a head scratcher. A huge gamble that he's grown up and left stupidity behind him.

Every time I think things can't possibly sink lower, they do. Sitting here watching these idiots further push back any chance at a cup run well into next decade (this one just started!) is seriously making me reconsider my fandom. What's the point if I have nothing to look froward to for the next 5-10 years while this mess plays out at a simultaneously desperate and glacial pace? I'm not a young man anymore.

The ultimate pain is the inevitable accidental tank that finally lands us a real franchise player, only to be completely incapable of building a team around him for a dearth of assets, thereby wasting another 5-10 years.

Let's not get carried away with the value of middle round picks.
If you blow it up, it's easy to quickly stockpile these picks in trades, then spend 5 years watching them flame out.
Which is what we did from 2014-2020.
You can keep trying to defend this shit, but it's indefensible. Fletcher is the worst GM the Flyers have ever had and his tenure here has now reached Milburian levels of absurdity.

If DeAngelo wasn't a head case, you make this trade without hesitation.
I mean if we trade Sanheim for these same picks, you'd be livid.

Problem is DeAngelo has to have truly reformed and become a model citizen for this trade to make sense.
And that's one hell of a gamble.

It's all indefensible. Sanheim can play D. And anyway, we're totally going to trade him for those same picks, that's if we just don't lose him outright to free agency for nothing because we're chasing a first round exit.

That’s not the problem at all. That’s about as inconsequential as you get for this situation. The problem is DeAngelo the player doesn’t fix what’s wrong with the Flyers defense. He is yet another 2nd pair defensemen with flaws to his game, like all 2nd pair defensemen, for a team that’s desperately needs a competent first pair. The only way this remotely works is if Provorov somehow becomes Slavin and that’s not happening. More assets wasted because management can’t even see what’s wrong with the team and that’s the most depressing part. Fletcher and co are throwing crap at the wall at this point.

A good GM and team could really come in and turn this franchise around within 3 seasons.

Risto - 1st rounder
Laughton - 1st rounder
JVR - 2nd rounder
Tippet - 2nd rounder
DeAngelo - 2nd rounder

There are plenty of dumb GMs that would give up a first for Risto. Laughton on a strong year could get a first at the deadline. We could legit build up 4-5 first rounders over the next couple of years while being a bottom feeder and picking in the top 5.

Invest heavily in the draft and stop signing plugs like Hayes to lifetime contracts. Build with Farabee, Hart, Konecny, Frost, York and Brink and give them young talent.

I f***ing hate where we are right now. I really hate how long we are going to suffer with this :eek::eek::eek: at the helm

The fact that you think Davy boy and his Dino quartet will replace Cuck with anyone other than yes man in training Danny Briere is adorable.

You still have your fandom? Impressive.

So Gaudreau is all but a lock at this point right?

No - he's working on an extension with Calgary. It's not a lock. NJ will also make an offer if he leaves Calgary and they look a lot more attractive than Philly..especially after Torts and Racist were brought in.

Hanging on by a thread, mostly because the very idea of rooting for a non-Philadelphia sports team is or at least previously was anathema to me. I don't even know where I'd start. This f***ing team was the last real shred of interest I had left in professional sports and now even that's gone.

Ah, the Avs didn’t have any second rounders on their team so every team can build a team like that!

Genius!
I dont know why people on here forget that we already did this no 2nd rd picks as a team back in the Holmgren era. He picked 3 times in the 2nd rd out of 7 drafts and those picks were Kevin Marshall(woof), Anthony Stolarz(meh never got a chance), and Robert Hagg(double woof).

Now the players picked with the picks that were originally the Flyers, not many amounted to much. Jason Zucker was one of those picks, but he wasnt the best choice of his round. That being said, lots of good players picked in those 2nd rounds the Flyers didnt pick in. Heres a list: Derek Stepan and Roman Josi in 08, Ryan O'Reilly, Jakob Silverberg, and Tomas Tatar in 09, Justin Faulk and Tyler Toffoli in 10, Nikita Kucherov and Brandon Saad in 11.

Just imagine if the Flyers managed to pick one of those players in the 4 years they didnt pick in the 2nd round.
