No one can tell me that Nashville didn’t know how badly he was damaged. This was my physical mess traded out for your brain damaged one. Only issue is that the Flyers got stuck with a long term disaster of a contract. I guess that that’s not that bad since they’ll just write Ellis off each year with a LTIR placement. Nashville’s revenge for the Weber offer sheet?
If Nashville knew and hid it, the league would take a 1st from them. There are rules about these sort of things.

Francis you absolute turd, you could have taken JVR for free in the expansion draft. Not to mention Ghost or Voracek too.
Now he’s going to get a draft pick to take him so that’s better than free

So looks like Ryan Elvis may miss some time with his injury next year.. No one knows his status.

They wanted compensation back then too. I think Seattle were always taking more of a future approach then opposed to a competitive now approach so there was never a dire need on their end to take JvR, Voracek, Gostisbehere, etc. without compensation. Fast forward to a year later & the Flyers should be even more desperate so that asset might be a pretty good one for a year left of JvR opposed to two.

It’s certainly possible. Charlie & ASF have both said on their podcasts recently that it is a possibility as the option is on the table on the possible outcomes from those involved with the situation.

The other interesting thing Charlie mentioned on the latest BSH is that apparently the Flyers have considered a rebuild, but it's just not feasible with the roster and contracts they already have.

It’s going to happen just a matter of when not if. They dug a hole with capspace & assets already that they’re almost to China at this point. The roster doesn’t have a high ceiling either given where it’s at currently with some of their best players already having left their prime. It’s going to be delayed but they’re going to run this thing even further into the ground that it gets to a point of no return over these next few years.

That’s why I rather just rip the band aid off now & looking more to the future these next few years.

If you mean by a rebuild, you trade the veterans, accumulate draft picks and draft high for three to four years, yeah, that would be difficult, you'd have to sell players for pennies on the dollar. The younger veterans would have value, but if you start trading 25 year old players who'd you'd want as the core of a team 3-4 years from now - you're signalling a decade rebuild.

It does tell me they know there's no quick turnaround, and they're not good enough for even a big name FA to move the needle.

The middle way is to add young assets on the margin, eat a year off Atkinson's and Hayes' contracts, move out JVR and see what happens with Ellis. Couts isn't moving in any case. By next summer, it's possible they're a team with only two players 30 or older. Which may not be a "rebuild," but is certainly a youth movement.

I think Ellis simply doesn’t want surgery. Surgery probably just means a lot more surgeries the rest of his life with an earlier onset.

He might be giving a shot at rehabbing it without surgery, but I think the writing on the wall that this is going to be one of those Nathan Horton LTIR until the end situations.

On the bright side, it’s cap room.

It might not be a problem surgery can fix. With extensive core issues you can fix one thing and then that makes two other things break. You fix those things and then the original thing breaks in a different way. And it's just an eternal whack-a-mole until you die.

People will joke that Fletcher will come running, but the reality is TB is running to Fletcher.

Talking about Ellis.

Compensation in the setting of a degenerative hip condition.

Nashville knew he was a ticking time bomb. That's how these issues work. You're fine, until you're not. You can play until it degenerates enough to hurt, then you start to play through it, then you're never fine again

RE: JVR.

I’ve read rumors about Seattle. Friedman & Marek both mentioning it gives it more cachet.

I’m guessing it happens. What’s going to be the sweetener (as much as I loathe the term).

Seattle has cap and they could use someone like JVR; Seattle is pretty light, in both scoring and size, on LW. Plus, in his first season back with the Flyers was with Hak and he had a decent season.

He’s actually not a bad player still but at 33 years old & still having four years left on his deal at $6.75M that’s just way too much risk to take on. If he was on a one year deal then yeah a lot teams should be interested.

Obviously Tampa Bay is just trying to get out of it now while he might still be moveable.
