Fletcher was hired with a mandate from ownership that was the exact opposite of "do nothing." That wasn't an option.

So he acquired Hayes, Niskanen, Braun, and Pitlick, and the team went from non-playoffs to 7th overall in the NHL at the time of the COVID pause, and then the Flyers' first playoff series win in 8 years.

So they did compete. There was no way to predict that they'd fall apart the following shortened season with the worst NHL team goaltending performance in almost 3 decades.

I get that. Ownership and management were not pleased at all with the team's performance. I remember jerseys being thrown on the ice. Hextall was fired not long after that. Eventually Hakstol too.

I'm just saying that all those acquisitions, with Hayes as the key, in retrospect seem like the wrong moves because the team's core youth wasn't/isn't as talented as we thought they were. They tried one last kick at the can with the G/Coots/Jake core.

Now the bottom fell out, largely because of a series of poor moves from the GM, under-developed or middling youth, and bad luck with injuries and a pandemic.

If I was to write a book about the Philadelphia Flyers organization since 2012, “This f***ing Sucks” would be in excellent title.

Intro: f***ing Hextall is an asshole by Bob Clarke
Chapters
1. There goes Pronger, we’re f***ed
2. Bryz and a walk in the woods
3. Fire Lavi now? Nope, waiting 3 games into the next season makes much more sense.
4. Who the f*** is Dave Hakstol
5. VLC, AMac and VdV oh my!
6. Trade everyone Ron, please
7. R.I.P. Ed, at least you don’t have to watch these clowns anymore
8. Who else do we know that can play goal?
9. Bob and Paul hate Ron, bye Ron and what the f*** is a Cale Makar?
10. Here comes Cuck, Brent & Mimsy
11. AV and pet French bartender, what could possibly go wrong
12. 7 years of Hayes, God hates us
13. A 2 month hot streak is just like winning the Cup, right?
14. It’s all Niskanen and covid’s fault!
15. Risto & Yandle because f*** you, that’s why
16. Bye AV, hi nicer clueless jackass
17. Yeah Torts will fix this, BWAHAHAHA!
18. Sell the f***ing team, please!
Jesus lol. I wonder what the next 18 will look like

15. Travis Konecny
Right Wing, Philadelphia Flyers
Age: 25
Stats: 79 GP, 16 G, 36 A, 52 Pts
Contract: 3 more seasons, $5.5 million AAV
Scoop: The Flyers engaged in exploratory conversations with a few teams about Konecny ahead of the March trade deadline, certainly willing to examine the possibility of moving him. They never advanced beyond that, but GM Chuck Fletcher laid enough ground work that if he is indeed ready to move Konecny, he at least has an idea of what he might be able to get in return. Konecny’s goal scoring has fallen off in a big way after 24, 24 and 30-goal (pace 2019-20) seasons. He works hard, is willing to go to the dirty areas to score, but his body language isn’t great. Is he the type of player to blossom or sag under John Tortorella? That’s probably what the Flyers are trying to figure out.

Mid 30’s & on a bad contract? Is that Ellis’ potential replacement?

It’s certainly possible. Charlie & ASF have both said on their podcasts recently that it is a possibility as the option is on the table on the possible outcomes from those involved with the situation.
Philly curse is real, I don't care what anyone says, but I think a big part of it, is not wanting to play here, I think those rumors may actually be true

Talking about Ellis.

No one can tell me that Nashville didn’t know how badly he was damaged. This was my physical mess traded out for your brain damaged one. Only issue is that the Flyers got stuck with a long term disaster of a contract. I guess that that’s not that bad since they’ll just write Ellis off each year with a LTIR placement. Nashville’s revenge for the Weber offer sheet?
