Just thinking out loud, I love DeBrincat - but I just don't see where he fits on this roster if they don't move a RW. TK, Cam, Brink, Tippett.

Do we like the idea of Cam or TK moving to play LW?

They probably know Hart’s status in regards to that case/incident. There’s only a select few that are noteworthy players in the NHL right now. The biggest one in Makar was ruled out. So there’s only a few guys NHL teams would really have to PR for if they ended up being one of the eight. The others are like bottom of the lineup, fringe guys, minor leaguers, etc. who would/could be discarded easily to avoid the bad PR.

Again, another guy that wasn't in the CHL but...

Now is this the tea leaves speaking - even Meltzer is calling for a "do nothing" offseason:

I don't think this is a concerted campaign, rather, it's obvious this team isn't one or two players away from contending, so making "big moves" this summer would be counter-productive.

But if the media hacks say this, and Torts doesn't clamour for additions, Fletcher will have more leeway not to do things.
At some point Scott will get the message, and maybe without throwing a plate of food at the wall.

'Liked' for the Trump meltdown reference. I'd like to think that Meltzer is either a) expressing a growing media opinion to which the FO will listen or b) spinning an FO narrative to temper Authentic Fan expectations. I'd like that but I won't hang my hat on it, since I am supposed to be holding onto my hat for what is in store. I also won't buckle up because I believe I would rather be ejected from the vehicle in the event of a violent collision.

Might as well just lump in that the Hayes signing was needed because of the failure of the prior GM

A center of some kind was needed because Patrick's career was in doubt, but I don't blame that on Hextall because the injuries that ruined Patrick happened after he was drafted. All the core problems we were worried about with NP five years ago ended up not being a problem.

I wanted them to Get Carter.

Hayes signing wasn't needed. Big diff comparing the 2 deals and this deal. Though yes the prior GM didn't get that top 6 center.

I think that was the key turning point in the franchise's direction.

If they do nothing and don't try and replace an injured Patrick, then we are probably in a much better position with a number of higher draft picks, and none of the trades aimed at being competitive now. But that would be an acknowledgement that the team wasn't good enough to compete, and maybe G is traded earlier and Coots doesn't re-sign. Who knows?

Fletch chose to be aggressive and win-now, and we did not win now. So here we are.

Still trying to win now, but constantly feeling like we're further away from actually winning ever.

They are 100% further away. Until they acknowledge they need a complete tear down and shift in organizational philospy nothing will change.

Well Giroux could have asked to be traded anytime. He didn't want to for some sick reason. That is on him.

Couturier is another I just don't get. Why sign here if you have any competitive bone in your body. He has seen first hand Jake and Giroux. Guess took the money. Cant blame him to an extent I suppose though the money was always going to be there imo. Chuck to the surprise of no one missed the boat on trading him at the 2021 deadline.

Fletcher was hired with a mandate from ownership that was the exact opposite of "do nothing." That wasn't an option.

So he acquired Hayes, Niskanen, Braun, and Pitlick, and the team went from non-playoffs to 7th overall in the NHL at the time of the COVID pause, and then the Flyers' first playoff series win in 8 years.

So they did compete. There was no way to predict that they'd fall apart the following shortened season with the worst NHL team goaltending performance in almost 3 decades.
