TB’s defensive core isn’t that strong behind their aging vets (Hedman at 34 and McDonagh at 35). That cupboard is empty, and it’s going to be increasingly obvious.

Interesting that it was all picks and no prospects from TB. I think high level prospects tend to hold a lot more value than these late 1sts.

Looking at the trade, if you remove the depth pick and Essyimont, to me its sort of a late 1st for Gourde, and a late 1st and 2nd for Bjork.

That's a good combo. For Oleksiak my only caution is someone (the Jets) making sure that his contract for next season doesn't stop them from any player re-signing they are trying to do. I'd need to hear more about Oleksiak lately to gauge his potential impact, but getting another physical D for the playoffs is definitely not a bad thing.

Weird situation all around. At this point, why not just hold on to him? You're not gonna get anywhere near the value you paid for him, so why not just hope that he makes a difference in the playoffs?
