It'll also be nice to have Wyatt and Logan's contract extensions staggered in future years.
I can actually see this being a fairly important reason for Nill, in addition to everything else. It would fit with the way he structures most of his contracts.

Heres a question from someone who knows nothing about rules- if the Blazers get bounced (Their season ends) and the Stars are still in it, can Stankoven join the Stars?

The Blazers are hosting the Memorial Cup, so they have a guaranteed spot whether they win the WHL or not.

With the Memorial Cup occurring in late May, there's pretty much no chance we'll see Stankoven in the NHL this year.

If they weren't hosting and failed to win the WHL, then yes, he could join the team at any time. It would burn a year off his ELC though.

Yes, it's a completely normal development path for an NHL ready player to be sent back to the CHL because an NHL owner "Must win my Memorial Cup"

We'll just agree to disagree. Stankoven had nothing left to learn at the CHL level.

The only league he could have benefited from playing in besides the NHL is the AHL, and that wasn't an option, but 100% no doubt in my mind if it were, he would have still been sent back to the WHL because Gaglardi wants his stupid Memorial Cup. And I hope he doesn't get it, more so I hope that Stankoven cannot play.

Its done. Get over it.

If he played 9 games, no? Not sure how that rules is affected for playoff games?

Where do you even put Stankoven on this year’s forward group if healthy? 4th line to start out? That couldn’t be good for his development.

We can speculate all we want fact is also Stankoven didn't look that NHL ready in pre-season compared to Johnston either . So they went with the safe route and that it helps the WHL team the Stars owner also owns made that decision even easier.
Yes, this is true. He didn't look all that ready to me. Nil said even WJ didn't look ready in camp, but made enough plays in camp and preseason to have him change his mind from his standard (let them ripen at lower levels) mentality. Frankly, I will be LStank probably goes to the AHL next year if contractually able, with a mid season call up his first NHL games, and hopefully he proves himself then. But hey, he may shine in camp this year.

He wouldn't have been on the 4th line, the roster we started the year with had openings on the 2nd line RW and 3rd line RW.
It's not Gurianov was ever a real top 6 option.
Literally could have thrown him with Marchment and Seguin

Don't you think that if the ONLY reason he didn't make the team was because of the Mem Cup, that they would have still given him his 9 games? If he deserved to make the team but TG vetoed it, I imagine Nill would still want what is best for his development and would have given him the 9 games in the NHL.

Maybe it was a factor in their decision but I have a hard time believing that it was a big factor. My guess (I'm not gonna pretend like I know what people are thinking), is that Nill thought he wasn't quite ready and since he is small he needs to be 100% ready before he makes it.

He may not be learning a ton in the WHL regular season but he is going to gain (or has already gained) valuable experience in the WJC, WHL playoffs and the Mem Cup.

I'm fairly certain Nill and DeBoer both only wanted one teenager on the roster.

Has a team with two 19 year olds ever been successful? Made a deep run? I can't think of any, even including top picks.

Getzlaf and Perry I think were both rookies at the same time and Anaheim won a round or two that year. They even had Penner as a rookie that year also

They won the cup the next year

That's a good one. But we're going back almost 20 years for that

I think the lockout influenced that as well too. Getzlaf and Perry both turned 21 that year and probably would've played in the lockout year.

Both also way bigger than Johnston and Stankoven which may have helped.

I might have to make a Chase Wheatcroft highlight package. Such great hands

Not sure how good he is in the D zone tho and his skating doesn't look like anything amazing. Could be an interesting one to watch for the Texas Stars. Hopefully turns out better than Felhaber but who knows. Completely unpredictable but at least he's got good hands and a good shot. 22 of his 47 goals came on the powerplay however. Plays right in the slot. Not tap in goals at least though
