Go vote Stankoven if you haven't already :sarcasm:he's 1 vote behind Zellweger

So Stankoven. Wish we had seen more out of him in Canada's game against Latvia. Looked to be deferring to older teammates too much.

Stankoven just scored a 5 on 3 goal for Canada. Rebound goal into a mostly empty net, but nice to see he's not wasted as the net front presence anymore lol

Glad he scored, he has seemed pretty passive offensively so far although maybe he is supposed to be floating in space so Johnson can try and find him

Yeah he's been very passive and is hanging around the middle of the ice and front of the net only which isn't how he normally plays, and Johnson hasn't been able to create much either on top of that so that line doesn't have much going it feels like hardly ever. No chemistry there wish Canada's coach would change things up.

Right as I say that Stankoven wins a race to a puck, lifts the dmans stick and taps a puck over to Johnson who makes a move and misses a wide open net somehow

Gotta work our magic for Bourque again

Maybe he's just trying not to get injured before Stars training camp? I don't know how often stuff like that really happens, but he's in a weird situation since he has a shot at the roster and the WJC is so close to Stars development stuff and training camp. Pure speculation, but if the motor isn't there it might just be because he has a lot to lose by getting injured, and not a lot to gain from this tournament. I don't know if teenage hockey players are thinking that pragmatically about their futures and these guys are generally wired to compete, but it's just a thought since the timing of the WJC is really weird.

Stankoven with some really great chances for Canada today through 1 period, got absolutely robbed a couple of times. Could also have a couple of assists but the Czech goalie has made some insane saves

Fortunately, he does have 1 assist. Kent Johnson scored with the Michigan and Stankoven picked up an assist on it :laugh:was a great shift though from him and his line

Still haven't seen Stankoven at his best yet in this tournament, but tonight he definitely took a step forward and was pretty solid and had a couple of assists, although neither were plays directly created by him but he had good shifts for both.

His whole line did well as they were dangerous as a trio almost every shift. Showed no chemistry whatsoever and were really disappointing through the first 2 games and Stankoven looked super passive and like he didn't want the puck on his stick, but tonight he looked more confident and carried it a bit more and he, Johnson, and Foerster were finding each other.

Hopefully he can build upon this next game. It honestly looked like he was a completely different player in the first 2 games in particular. Like nothing about his game looked familiar and like what we saw in Kamloops' games. Tonight he took a step forward towards what we saw during the season but he's still a ways away. Capable of a lot more than he's showing, hopefully he has a better start in camp than this one

Probably my biggest complaint though is I still hate how he's being used on the PP in the slot. I'd put him on the 2nd unit probably cause the 1st unit can be a mess with everyone trying to hang onto the puck and make perfect plays, I've only seen them try to go to him once for a shot in that position all tournament long and he's no use as a screen. Just wasting away there

One positive to take away from Stankoven's world juniors- he leads all players in the tournament with a 74% faceoff win percentage

Stankoven looking more useful on the PP cause he finally got moved to his normal spot. Hope Canada gets more opportunities. I also hopes he starts shooting the puck more and carrying it himself rather than deferring to Johnson every chance he gets

He seems star-struck by Johnson almost lol

Yeah another quiet game from Stankoven. He's not bad, just relatively invisible outside of a few plays. Can't finish right now either but has had several point blank chances in the tournament
