Looking at college tournaments this weekend to see what players may be available if their team's season ends.

Michigan State's leading scorer is a senior from Switzerland named Nicolas Muller.

Anyone know anything about him and is he worth pursuing (if not for New Jersey than for the Comets)?

I always seem to mess up draft ages and dates, but i think his draft year would have been 4 points in 22 games in the Swedish Jr league. I’m just stay watching but his college numbers were really uninspiring until this season. He turns 24 in June, doesn’t look much like an NHL player.

Not to state the obvious, but Allsvenskan is not exactly loaded with players on their way to an NHL career.

Pasic's teammate Linus Videll , the league's second-leading scorer, is 37 years old and has only twice scored 20 goals in a season before this year.

Vindell is a seasoned vet who’s played 9 years in the SHL and 11 years in the KHL.

Pasic has actually played a total of 58 SHL games since he was 17 and he played a full season in the SHL at age 20 in 20-21.

His 52 GP 15 points (7G 8A) in 20-21 was 15th for U21 players and 19th in PPG (0.29). And he played on one of the worst and lowest scoring teams in the SHL.

He then had a tough 2021-22 season that really seemed to derail his chances as prospect.

He was scoreless for 13 games on that bad SHL team. He then got traded to HockeyAllsvenskan that was doing even worse (Södertälje SK won the relegation playoffs last year).

I don’t know what happened with all of that but he’s having a great season this year.

Södertälje SK isn’t part of some bigger club with a SHL team that would promote him so he can only blow up HockeyAllsvenskan.

He’s one of two player’s carrying his team offensively and they’ve gone from the basement to 4th place.

I put some write ups about him below, some of which is amusingly contradictory, but he’s was seen as a long term project with a lot of skill and excellent skating in 2019.

I think he’s probably worth signing, it would just be a 2 year ELC and if it goes sideways it could be terminated so he could go back to Sweden. It’s not about planning his role on the Devils, the first step would be to see if he could provide some offense for Utica.

I watched 2-4 may be 5 or so games of Pasic... like three years ago. Now I don't remember correctly. Feeling like it was in my childhood.
Anyway he was promising. Forechecker with good skating. He was fourth liner. Would be interesting to watch some of his actual games. I believe he will have a chance to play in shl next season if Devils will not sign him.

H-m-m-m-m, here's a crazy event that recently happened. The Hartford Wolf Pack acquired the much traveled D-man Adam Clendening from the the Rockford Ice Hogs for Forward Zach Jordan. AN AHL TRADE!

Hartford strengthened their D with the addition of AHL veteran Clendening while giving up only Jordan who spent the season in Jacksonville of the ECHL. A real good trade for Hartford. Not sure what Rockford thinks about Jordan, but they made the deal. It's proof you can get something you need without mortgaging the team.

In the Ranger/Blackhawks deal for Kane AHL D-men were exchanged. Rockford's Andy Welinski was traded by the Rangers to Rockford in exchange for Cooper Zech. Both are actually AHL D-men.

Utica and San Jose players were exchanged in the Meier deal, but the Comets lost key roster players. The exchange was for:
- an ECHL regular, Timur Ibraginov,
- an IR AHL D-man, Santeri Hattaka, who has played 8 games this season
- an ECHL goalie, Zachary Emond, who has played 4 games and is out for the season with hip surgery.

The other piece of the deal was an NHL/AHL D-man, Scott Harrington who was waived in order to be assigned to Utica. He was to be an NHL capable call-up for the Devils. He was promptly claimed by Anaheim.

The end result was the Comets lost 3 regular players and received 1 player who will probably be a Comet next season in Hattaka. I did read last night in a local paper that they hope he will be healthy near the end of the season. Whoopee! NHL teams can avoid massacring their AHL teams in trades with a little more thought.

I am well aware that the main purpose of the deal was Meier and that part was accomplished. Fitz is to be congratulated. The Devils just got much stronger. I am very happy about that. Now the powers that be need to address the issue of what to do about their farm that is clinging to a top 4 spot for the AHL playoffs with 20 games remaining.

They don't want to finish 5th. That team has to play a best of 3 round to make it in. Then the winner gets to play a best of 5 with the Division's #1 team --- Toronto Marlies. Toronto is running away with the North Division. They are currently 20 points ahead of Syracuse (#2) and Utica (#3) at 57, Rochester (#4) at 56, and Laval #5 at 51. Cleveland and Belleville are right on the doorstep with 50 and 49 respectively.

Utica is now without their top 2 point leaders in Clarke (up with NJ) and Johnsson (traded to San Jose). Holtz is hurt. The Comets are in Belleville right now and trail 1-0 halfway through the 1st.

The lineup tonight includes:
Filip Engaras (C)- up from ECHL Adirondack
Jarrod Gourley (LD)- up from ECHL Adirondack
Xavier Parent (F) - up from ECHL Adirondack
Aarne Talvitie (C) - 1 point in 36 GP
Timur Ibragimov (LW)- up from ECHL Witicha

Utica has tied the game with Belleville, 1-1. Late in the 1st period.

Comets need some help both from the powers that be and their own IR list.

The CAA Arena is a ghost town.

Comets pinned in and 3 good shots never get to Daws and finally the puck deflects out of play.

1 timer in the slot stopped and held by Daws. Comets giving up too many good chances. It's 3-1 not 6-1!
Gambardella a perfect pass to Parent all alone on the post with an open net, but he's on the wrong side and can't handle it and he ends up trying to pass it back to Gamby. No go.

Laberge to the box.

Here goes the PK

Sens shoot it out themselves.

Halonen shoots it out.

Comets kill it.

Sens in and the shot by a guy going through the net front is over the cross bar.

Seconds over 5 to go.
Get it out and get it deep!

Comets ice it. Don't like the Dinne strategy of trying to lock it down.

Talvitie brings it in 1 on 1

Shoots and it went wide
Beats the defender to the post and shoots the puck coming back to him off the boards
It's IN

Goal #2 in the 2nd game in a row for the previously anemic Talvitie.

3- Aarne Talvitie (Utica Comets) 1G

Honorable Mention awarded by me to Brian Halonen - 2G

This one was a total team effort. Everybody worked hard. A real hard hat, blue collar effort. Constant pressure on the puck. Something we haven't seen from these guys on many nights. It's the way this team is going to have to play every game from here on out. Don't know who kicked them in the ass, but it worked for 1 night anyways.

Syracuse beat Cleveland 6-5. They scored the winning goal with 19 seconds left to go. Comets remain tied with them now at 59 Pts each and the Crunch have 1 game in hand. Laval gave the Comets a little breathing room over Rochester by beating them 7-5. The Rocket remain 8 points back of the Comets with a game in hand. Rochester is now 3 back, but still have 3 games in hand.

Next up for Utica is Charlotte on Friday in Utica. Charlotte is 30-18-3-2 for 65 points and are 6-3-1-0 in their last 10 while with the win tonight the Comets are 4-6, but have won 3 in a row vs Cleveland and Belleville. That's what they were supposed to do. You beat the last 2 teams in your Division no matter how close they might be to you in Points.

Night all.

Catching up.

Lol, that doesn’t count?

Will be interesting to see what the Devils do with McCarthy with so many defenders turning pro. Just by guys under contract, next year looks something like:

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Smith - Marino
Hughes - Bahl
Okhoituk
———
Wotherspoon - Nemec (Yr 2)
Mukhmadullin (Yr 1) - Walsh (RFA)
Vilen (Yr 1) - Vukojevic

Going to be a lot of rookie defenders in the pipeline next year. There’s a case to be made McCarthy may go elsewhere rather than be another rookie defneder in Utica.
Wonder if trading Mukhamadullin and Okhotiuk indicates Devils will sign Case when BU season ends.
