WTF is up with Jayce Hawryluk? He only played 19 games with Belleville and put up 3G/8A/9 Pts. His contract runs out at the end of the season.

Is this guy injured like 2 of the other acquisitions NJ picked for the Comets? Dugan has only played 3 games for Chicago.

Only Ibragimov (LW/2G/3Pts/9GP) and Hayes (LD/1A/5GP) are healthy and playing. Both will be RFAs.

Hatakka (LD) is hurt and may not play until next season. Has 1 contract year remaining.
Hawryluk (RW/LW) and a VE by AHL rules is unknown. Will be a UFA
Emond (G) is out for the season and will be an RFA.

Comets needed Forward help more than anything especially at center.
They received 2 D, a goalie, an ECHL forward, a 27-yr-old wing.

Hawryluk is that wing, who has a .62 PPG in the AHL which is exactly the same as Jack Dugan who they traded away. A meaningless roster exchange.

Zack Hayes was the return for Dugan. He's a LD.
Comets LD:
Wotherspoon
Vukojevic
Groleau
Geertsen
Gourley
That crew can give the Comets a decent threesome every night.

Keeping Dugan and acquiring Hawryluk for futures would have been a much better deal especially if he was healthy. Dugan has only played 3 games for Chicago.

Igragimov (90), Hayes (65) Hatakka (68), Emond (1) and Hawryluk (8) are all listed on the roster.
Ibragimov - playing
Hayes - playing
Hatakka - possibly by the end of the season, but likely not until next year
Emond - out for the season
Hawryluk - ?
Of the 5 acquisitions NJ brought in only 2 are playing and both are downgrades from what was here. Essentially NJ did nothing to improve their farm and in fact weakened it.

Lazar took a week to arrive because of visa issues and I assume that's what's going on with Hawryluk, it's just more difficult for players who are not American citizens to play immediately in the US.

Looks like the Allentown Region will be a treat for New Jersey and Princeton hockey fans. Michigan (Hughes, Casey and Edwards) facing Cornell while Penn State faces Michigan Tech.

Penn State's coaching staff was previously at Princeton while current Colgate interim AD Yariv Amir and Michigan Hockey SID Kristy McNeil were also with the Tigers before taking their current jobs.

One other tough note from last weekend's college tournaments.

Artem Shlaine and Northern Michigan were less than three minutes away from earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, leading 2-0 at Minnesota State in the CCHA championship game.

After scoring twice in the final 2:19, the Mavericks won in overtime.

In his first season at Northern after transferring from UConn, Shlaine scored 11 goals with 21 assists in 38 games.

In two seasons with the Huskies he scored 8 goals with 18 assists in 59 games.

Providence knocked out of Hockey East tournament and they're unlikely to make the bracket. So we'll see if the team signs Patrick Moynihan and/or gives him an AHL ATO for the rest of the season. Or perhaps he'll just stay in school and finish up his degree?
Your last guess proved correct, he’s going back for a 5th year which means he’s no longer our prospect.

I’m hoping the Swiss/Canadian undrafted QMJHL FA Théo Rochette decides to join the Swiss Mafia in Jersey. He was also Mercer’s teammate for half of 2019-20.

Not optimistic about it, but why not try to will it into existence…

If he's looking to play a fifth year that gives you a good idea of his pro potential.

Obviously, McMahon has watched him a lot more than I have. But he wasn't real noticeable despite his size and his numbers weren't anything special on a team that generally was among the top teams in college hockey.

Will be interesting to see if another school takes a shot on him.

Presumably some D1 school will have an extra spot for a one year stop gap of an experienced right shot player to fill a roster hole?

Worse and less productive players than Patrick Moynihan transferred through the portal to play 5 years, I can’t see how he would have any problems.
He'll find a place to play - and could produce decent numbers.

But fifth-year college players are similar to 20-year-olds in junior.

Hard to figure men vs boys.

Gotta say that I counted the other day and I think at least 25 teams have signed someone to an ELC since March 1. While the Devils don't have any likely options of their draft picks at this point, it would be nice to sign someone.

Well Nikola Pasic’s HockeyAllsvenskan team [edit/whoops: got knocked out in 3-2 in 5 game playoff series so his future is up in the air] is still in it while down 2-3 because it’s a 7 game series.

Rumors in January had him being courted by SHL team Luleå, so we’ll see if he just signs with them or we sign him before his rights go bye bye on June 1st.

I’m tracking all the FA signings so I can do a review and tell everyone what to be bitter about after the dust has settled.

A 100+ point season for the NHL club, an AHL playoff team, and three players headed to the Frozen Four among just some of the accomplishments this year.

But somehow there will still be bitterness?

None of those things you listed have anything to do with signing FAs for organizational depth and I was specifically referring to that, sorry for any confusion.

No longer see a Prospect Page for Daniil Misyul.

Imagine with the recent transactions and the Devils drafted since it is probably a longshot; but with Locomotiv eliminated from the playoffs any chance he joins Utica?

Remember the days when he was viewed as a legitimate piece of the Devils' future.

He's still younger than many college juniors but hard to picture him ever wearing a Devils uniform.

Playing with the puck is major problem. But as AHL defenseman or 8th defenseman I think he is an option for a 2-5 regular games. Especially if Devils will decide to stay with Siegenthaler, Bahl, Hughes and Smith as LD core. He played third pair role this season.

He’s definitely up the team’s alley as mobile, larger defenseman.

Smith isn’t a problem but Vilèn is likely coming over.

We traded for LHD Santeri Hatakka too, who has an other year on his ELC, though some Shark fans weren’t too optimistic about his injury so maybe that contract just goes away at some point.

I would put Vilen over Misyul easily, but I can`t say competently that Vilen is more ready for board game\game in the corners\on the slot than Misyul for next season.

Anyway Misyul`s deal ended with this season, but we don`t hear any news about his trip to the NA. He could try himself here and now in NA. May be he isn`t high about his salary potential in NA as I am.

'We're best buddies': Michigan's trio of Devils defense prospects reach Frozen Four

Masiak with an article on the Devils’ Michigan trio. A quote from or about each player.

————

““It’s great. We have a really good relationship,” Casey said. “We’re best buddies, and being on the team together is awesome. Just going through all of those processes together with the organization makes things easier. Going to dev camp was a ton of fun. It’s going to be great again this summer. And with them being a little bit ahead of me, I get to learn a lot from them.””

————

““Luke is special,” said Michigan coach Brandon Naurato, who had worked with the Hughes kids as a skills coach in the offseasons and for the Detroit Red Wings in player development before joining the Wolverines staff two years ago. “He’s been good all year, but when he came back from world juniors, it was similar to last year. He’s just put the team on his back and logging big minutes. He’s doing it the right way. Everyone knows how great he is offensively, but he’s been putting on a clinic with defending the rush and angling guys and being physical in the corners. I think he’s shown people another way that he can play.

“I think people always say it about high-end offensive defensemen who aren’t in the NHL that they need to learn how to defend. He’s done it for us in the past in tough games too, but I’m sure he’s heard that and has been like, ‘I’ll show you I can defend’ and he’s doing it.””

—————-

“Ethan is an unreal person, a special athlete and an elite skater,” Naurato said. “He’s pretty similar to Jacob Truscott (also a 2020 draft pick, by Vancouver). It is great defense first, but there’s way more offense in them. Ethan has been playing behind Luke Hughes, Owen Power, Nick Blankenburg, guys like that. He’s going to get his chance to run the power play coming up. He did it in juniors and has played there a little bit for us.

“I think what’s cool about him is he kind of already knows what he’s going to be if he makes it to the NHL, so he’s really putting a lot of pride into focusing on those things. Just look at the Devils. They’re going to have Dougie Hamiltonand Luke. So if those minutes are taken, how else does he fit? He takes a lot of pride in his defense.”

Pelicans now tied with KalPa at one game each in the best-of-seven quarterfinals in Finland.

KalPa won last game 3-0, scoring on pp, shorthanded and an empty net goal.

Vilen played 18 minutes (3rd most for Pelicans D) and was on the ice for the shorthanded and empty net goals.

What are you talking about? The Pelicans lost to the Sacramento Kings last night and it was ugly.

I have a better chance of knowing a Chelsea or New York Liberty score than knowing what the Sacramento Kings did.

Which is to say no chance.
