If LaCombe can improve his level of physicality then I think he's got a pretty good shot at an NHL career. Right now he reminds me a bit of Cam Fowler which isn't a bad thing but I worry about him not being able to handle the physical aspect of the game at the next level.
A GM can find a defensive D-man to do the grind work to let LaCombe play the offensive game. That worked pretty well with Fowler. Offensive d-men who can play the two-way game can always find a niche in the NHL. Fowler and Shatty are great examples of that.
I don't know how physical LaCombe is, tbh. At the WJC, LaCombe just looked tentative after he got rocked by the Russians. Afterwards, he played a safe game with offensive flashes. In college, I would say he's a two-way defender because he often lead the team in blocked shots and in plus/minus for a couple of seasons. This season, it's as if he focus on offense as it showed up from the start of the season b/c he doesn't lead the team in blocked shots (4th with 35 blocks) or plus/minus rating (9th with +12).
If LaCombe can have that Lindholm type of physicality, then that would be great. Right now, Hinds is the only d-man I see playing with that Lindholm type of physicality and game play, which is to separate the puck from the opposition and quickly, efficiently get the puck out of the d-zone. But I would be okay if LaCombe has Shattenkirk physicality.
