I get they are hosting the Memorial Cup this year, but to trade your next 4 first rounders, and then add to that yet….for 2 players who you will only have for a few months….is just absolutely insane to me.

What would Bedard return? 8 first rounders+++++?

On another note, Zell winning the Memorial Cup would be a nice addition to his already impressive junior career.

They'll probably recoup some draft picks as they'll trade away some of their top players after the season's done. When I was following Tracey's WHL career, his team would be playoff bound one season and the next season talented teammates would be traded away. This happened twice to Tracey, first with Moose Jaw and then with Victoria.

Still, 4 first rounders + along with four players is a huge haul for Everett.

I'm very curious what Mintyukov will look like in a different system. Will he still be used as a pure rover or will he be reigned in to play more of a two-way game?

The 67s have a strong team first concept that has allowed them to succeed beyond their talent level. Minty will have to buy in, will be great for his development.

Also worth mentioning that the 67s recently acquired our old friend Logan Morrison, who led McTavish’s Hamilton team in scoring last year. Morrison is currently 2nd in scoring in the OHL, 1 spot above Mintyukov.

EDIT: I also just realized that Ottawa is the #1 team in the OHL with a record of 28-6-1-1.
They’re an interesting team. They don’t have any real superstars, but get contributions up and down their lineup. Obviously that changes a bit with the additions of Mintyukov and Morrison.

Kamloops plays Everett on Friday….so Zellweger will see his old teammates right away.

Prospect Update, pt 2: Pros: NA, Europe, and Asia (Jan 8, 2023)

Netminders Niche
Dostal is proving he can be a star at both the AHL and NHL level
Buteyets got some games in again back in the VHL and held steady.
Clang also held steady in the SHL

Regenda en fuego
Top line of Cotton-Groulx-Regenda has Regenda on fire.
In the past 7 games, Regenda has scored 7 points (4g, 3a).

Lopina back from injury and elevated
Started as 4C upon return. Since return, 5 games, 1 pt, and +1.
Promoted to 3C in recent two games. Was a +0 in the 5-1 loss to Admirals. Amazed!
His defense will be greatly welcomed back for the Gulls.

McTavish is 1C
In 3 games as 1C, he's got 6 points (3g, 3a) and +1 rating.
Faceoff percentage as 1C is 46.6% (20/43). (Gm 1 = 40%, Gm 2 = 56.6%, Gm 3 = 41.7%.
TOI: Gm 1 = 16:20, Gm 2 = 17:34, Gm 3 = 22:34

* McLaughlin remains point less (or pointless) in the ECHL as well.

Minty would technically be their best scorer for a wide margin (which might happen when you're 3rd in the league, lol). It will be interesting to see how his production is affected by the new team and system. He will play with the WJC Canada D Matier (he was not playing a lot tho), it will be interesting to compare how he looks alongside him. Matier is their top D scorer there, I'm assuming Minty will take that honor now (doesn't take rocket science to figure that out, I know  )

Awesome update thank you. I really don’t follow the CHL that closely. I’ll look out for it Friday. Hopefully it’s live streamed somewhere.

I want to see what the Kamloops Blazers are seeing with my friends. Maybe we are missing something here with Zellweger. Because that trade is a haul if I ever seen one

It’s interesting how the teams clearly value picks differently in the WHL vs OHL.
You can’t trade firsts in the OHL. So instead they throw around 2nds and 3rds. Also WHL draft kids a year younger than the OHL. Lot easier to miss on 1sts/more time to restock. The prices are still ridiculous but I don’t think a WHL first is worth the same as an OHL first.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t know that. I’m definitely more in tune with the WHL than the rest of the CHL.

This is a very large package for an import player. Typically it’s harder to get value for them.
