I honestly can’t wait for the Canucks to re-sign Horvat and Kuzmenko to inflated contracts. Need these Horvat to Avs offers to end. I’m fully expecting them to eventually be asking for Makar (50%), Byram, Newhook and the Avs next decade worth of 1sts
It’s like they refuse to believe we can’t afford Horvat cap wise anyway. Why trade for Horvat if he’s not staying long term? Lol

Out of curiosity, we kinda got Manson to pair with G. But with ther emergence of Bo, G got knocked down to the third pair. How much time has he really spent playing with Manson or better? Just trying to evaluate what he really is or capable of now because as much of a fan of his as I am, this is getting tough to defend....

Girard, Samuel - 22.12.19.png

I know Florida absolutely needs LD, but how does this get them to start talking Bennett, whose currently their #1C. Or any team really to talk C trade with us.

Stats that aren't freely available to the public paint a very different picture.

Defensively he's been solid. Offensively you need more, but it's very hard for a Dman to have a big impact offensively when the entire team is struggling to score, and with the Avs injuries Girard spends most of his 5 on 5 ice time with the likes of LOC, Newhook, Cogliano, Kaut, etc. etc. Not going to have good offensive number playing with those guys as a Dman.

I kinda think I understand that from my eye tests but not necessarily the stat lines and that's why I'm a big fan of his. Also, while I feel like he needs more than 3rd pairing minutes to be effective and find a groove, when I look at TOI stats, he's consistently at or above 20/min a game for the last several years. I'm just worried we would have to really polish some of this stuff up before he can significantly move the needle on a 2C.

Oh I agree on that.

I dont think he gets us a 2C as of right now.

I dont think we'll use him to get a 2C anyway. I think its more likely they use futures to get a 2C rental or pay less for a 2C with issues like Hayes.

If they want to use a LD to get a 2C I think it'll be Byram or Toews, and they'll get a good longer term solution in such a deal as well.

You've talked yourself there. You wait and see what happens with Florida. If/when they feel they're our of it, then you talk about a deal.

That's a scenario I keep playing out in my mind over and over. If we trade Byram, it's probably because we are secretly worried about his proneness for injury and the fact that young top 4 dmen of his ilk do not grow on trees. There's got to be value there that would get the job done. The worry is, now can we afford to keep Toews because if not my nightmare scenario says we are looking at Girard-Makar as our top pair followed by Englund-Manson and I don't even know what ends up as our 3rd pair.

-15 on the worst team in the NHL facing the other team's #1 line every night.
Yeah exactly this. Can't look at +/- really ever as it's super misleading, especially when you are on one of the worst teams in the league.

I'd gladly take Toews at the right price, he's a winner who's been there and knows what it takes.

I mean Florida did pretty much give Crouse away to Arizona so maybe they dumb enough to give up Lundell for G haha
A different management group is in place today.

The only way you get Lundell is giving up Byram, and with Byram's injuries, it may not be a straight swap. If you look at how Zito likes his defensemen, G will not be something he wants. Newhook adds nothing to them.

Toews has been solid this year overall. He's a shell of what he was 5 years ago, but that is to be expected. I want zero to do with Domi. He'd certainly have moments of excellence here, but he's a net negative player. He's been that way on every single team he has been on.

Erik Johnson wants to keep playing. And wants to stay an Av, while taking things one year at a time.

From The Athletic:

“I’m hopeful things will work themselves out,” Johnson said. “I have a good relationship with Joe (Sakic) and Chris (MacFarland). My desire is to take it after this year on a year-by-year basis. And as long as my body is feeling good — it’s feeling great — I want to play as long as I can. And here.”

Personal prediction (not that I want this) is EJ gets 2-2.5M x 1yrs from us.

After a decent start, Toews has only 4 goals and 9 points in his last 20 games.

I want nothing to do with that guy unless he is coming uber cheap. No 1st, no top prospect allowed for Toews.
Is this the same as the Kadri reverse jinx where he goes on a tear now?
