His value is at the point where I don't think he'd even cost a 2nd if a team wanted him. They reportedly wanted a 2nd this past offseason and things have gone horribly since then. I think we're getting to like Bowers (or sub him for another random prospect) and a 4th territory. Still won't work with the cap for the Avs but he'll likely be cheap for some team.
My guess is Edmonton would want a cheaper, bottom 6 guy more than a pick. But you're right his value isn't high. The problem is three fold with him now, his salary is too much (and Edmonton won't retain), he has arbitration rights (meaning he's likely a rental), and his agent will subvert and cross you in the media constantly if you don't spoon feed him.

Puljujarvi is trying to do anything he can. Last year he wouldn't touch a soul on the ice, this season he is amongst the Oilers leaders in hits and separating players from pucks.

There is something there with this player but it damn sure won't be unleashed in Edmonton. He won't be a true "4th overall pick" by putting up 80+ point seasons but I think he can be a useful NHL hockey player.

This led me to an interesting thought. Outside of two of the best players in the world in McDavid and Draisaitl, what promising players in this recent era were able to reach their potential in Edmonton?

Hall? No. Yakupov? No. Nurse? No. MPS? No. Schremp? No. Reinhart? No. Sam Gagner? Not really. Eberle? Not really. RNH? Not really. Puljujarvi? Absolutely not.

I mean I don't think Hall was too far off his potential in EDM. Obviously he had the hart year in NJ(a bit of an anomaly) but his first 4 seasons in EDM were pretty solid and productive as he was pretty much a PPG player there. Things got worse at the end but I feel like he was the best of their draft picks outside of McDrai.

Sort of. He had a good start, and a good 80 point season at 22, but then when he should have been getting better and taking the next step at 23 and 24, he had his two worst seasons in Edmonton.

I agree he was their best pick outside McDrai, but a lot of that was because he was a 1st overall pick. He always had the potential to be a perennial top 5 player in the NHL, but never really reached it outside that one year in NJ.

I was too distracted at 1:00 with the thought that somebody just figured out how to do cross dissolves, but nobody has told them they should make them shorter for their purposes. Unless they're trying to be ultra dramatic with Henrique and Anderson's player cards.

I think a lot of players have reached their potential or close to it in Edmonton. Hall was fine, trading him was always a mistake. Eberle's best seasons came in Edmonton. Nugent-Hopkins, while not my preferred style of player especially for the playoffs (similar to Girard IMO) has been all he can for them. Nurse is playing about as good as they can hope for. Klefbom was playing like a legit #2 before his career ending injury. Gagner's best offensive seasons came in Edmonton and he probably wouldn't have done much better elsewhere.

I think the Oilers track record for developing players picked outside of the top-10, much like the Avs, is heinous. Especially when you get past the 1st round since they did nab guys like Eberle and Klefbom outside of the top-10.

I would say Boston would be happy to get rid of Coyle...

The better question is why on Earth would we be interested in him? He hasn't played anything like a 2C since joining Boston.
Coyle is a great 3rd liner for them today and they can afford him. Moving forward they may not want him. But zero reason they move him today.

I'd rather have Henrique at full cap hit than getting Coyle's contract

I'm still really curious about Larkin being unsigned and coming up on UFA status. Stevie Y has got to want him back and has plenty of room to make it happen, I just don't know why it didn't get done already. Longer these things drag out, you never know what can happen. We were all on pins and needles over Landeskog. That being said, I doubt we have the room to make it happen moving forward on him, but it sure would be nice to rent him for a few months this spring/summer and then send him back to Detroit with a shiny ring.

Why haven't they gotten a deal done then? They must've been pretty far off, eh?
Extension or traded at the deadline. Losing a piece like that for nothing is an epic fail. He shouldn't have started the season without a new deal.
Bah, he has until July 1st before it’s an epic fail. I imagine he will use every bit of time before then to get something together. I’ll be pretty shocked if he deals Larkin. That could set back Detroit’s rebuild by a fair bit.

Nothing would set the rebuild back more than Larkin walking. Teams shouldn't let key players get to this point, at least with contenders there is hope for a cup but Detroit is not winning anything this season.
