I think there is a tremendous difference in skating between Kadri and O'Reilly. Kadri can still burn guys coming down the wing. O'Reilly never had that ability and his skating has only gotten worse over the years.

As for the proposal, I'm all for giving up less. I just don't see a scenario where the Canucks accept anything less than a king's ransom for their captain who is currently pacing 94 points (including f***ing 70 goals lol).

If it could be an all futures trade and we keep Newhook, perfect. If it could be a Newhook + OO deal and we keep the 2023 1st, perfect. But I think it's going to cost a pretty penny to acquire IMO the best player to hit the market this season if Vancouver does decide to sell.

I don't know what kind of summer ROR had but I don't think it involved running the steps at the arena like he used to do. He looks awful.

You can't win with Frederik Andersen as your starter. One of the most injury prone goalies I've ever seen.

Would love PLD over most if not all of the other "realistic" options out there. Basically as close to a carbon-copy Kadri replacement as you're going to find, despite the defensive woes. Only issue is he'd be expensive and a flight risk.

PLD is an absolute perfect fit for Colorado. Style, age, size...everything.

I don't believe he's a flight risk either.

No.

He didn't want to commit long term to CBJ because he was afraid he'd be the only one doing it (the team had recently lost Panarin, Bob, Duchene and Jones was on his way out) and then got traded to Winnipeg and was asked to commit long term at the end of last season shortly after the coach resigned and Wheeler + Scheifele were openly saying they wanted to leave.

It's perfectly understandable and reasonable to not want to commit long term to the 2 less attractive markets in the NHL when everyone around you has left or is threatening to leave.

He really was at the wrong places at the wrong time.

Why are we so convinced he's going to sign with Montreal? Other prominent Quebecois players (Lecavalier, Briere) had ample opportunity to do so and actively avoided doing so.

If I'm not mistaken an article this past summer from The Athletic cited various sources close to PLD stating he has his eyes set on Montreal the instant he can make a choice.

I'll believe it when I see it. Lecavalier paid lip service IIRC like that and then balked because he didn't want to be in that meat grinder. I imagine taxes and spending time on Florida beaches played a small part as well.

Coming from his agent, I'd assume they've had conversations about playing for Montreal. So that part scares me.

I mean, as a free agent he'll earn the opportunity to go where he wants, but nothing about PLD makes me think he's going to thrive in the spotlight of a Montreal or Toronto pressure cooker.
