I mean, as a free agent he'll earn the opportunity to go where he wants, but nothing about PLD makes me think he's going to thrive in the spotlight of a Montreal or Toronto pressure cooker.

My thoughts exactly. The way he conducted himself in Columbus after the trade request got out was not indicative of a guy of strong resolve (should be noted that even after the trade talk got raised to a boil and the awkwardness between him and the rest of the team was readily apparent, Matt Duchene continued to bust his ass in an Avs uniform).

Coming from his agent, I'd assume they've had conversations about playing for Montreal. So that part scares me.
Let me tell you something here...all French Canadians say that they'd love to play in Montreal but they don't all mean it. Letang was saying it last summer and re-upped in Pittsburgh as soon as he could.

UFA Danault bailed the f*** out of there.

Look at what happened to Drouin ffs. He's not even an NHL player anymore, he might as well retire at age 27. While his team was going to the cup finals he was sitting at home with depression.

That alone should scare the shit of all French Canadians to play in Montreal.

Meh, some guys can handle it and some guys can't. Guys historically seemed to thrive on playing in Montreal like Roy, Lafleur, Richard, etc. Now not so much, though all it takes is for one French Canadien to play well in Montreal for that reputation to change. Perhaps Dubois wants to be that guy.

Different era. Back then they were 10+ French guys in the room and the team was successful. It was much easier to handle the pressure.

Also Roy, Lafleur and Rocket are literally generational players. Not quite the same situation.

Also I find it hard to believe ROR’s game just fell off a cliff in a few months. He was one of the best player in the series a few months ago.

His underlying numbers last year took a hit, even though he (and every other goddamned forward in St. Louis) remained productive.

Doesn't matter if it was a different era. There was still unprecedented pressure on French Canadiens. Perhaps Dubois thinks he can be that guy, generational or not.

Tampa claimed balcers, were we the next team up?

How much difference in cost would petterson and horvat be?

I'm really struggling with this LTIR usage. If they used it to make a big trade, are they gonna keep Landy out until the playoffs? Because they have to get cap compliant when Landeskog, Nichushkin and Byram come back.

Still don't think they're willing to trade Girard, specially now that Byram is out. If they use the 1st and prospect to bring in someone, how would they make the cap work when everyone is healthy. Or are they just using this LTIR cap space to bring in people from minors?

Very confusing LTIR usage.

The literally have to put someone on LTIR to be cap compliant.

There's no trades coming. They had to put Landy on LTIR to ice a full roster tonight.

They were cap compliant last game. Is Bowers going out and Megna coming in made the difference to use the LTIR on both Helm and Landy?

They were not cap compliant last game. Helm had to be placed on LTIR to account for Bowers coming in.

Now Landy has to go on LTIR for Megna to fit in
Both Bowers and Megna make 750K. Bowers is injured, couldn't they just send him back to minors and bring in Megna without putting Landy on LTIR?

No. You can't send an injured player down.
Yeah I just remembered that. Well that sucks. Basically Avs are sacrificing to improve the 2C position at the trade deadline for another cup run just to bring in freakin Megna from minors. I would just go with 11 forwards until Nuke came back. Or I guess they can't even do the 11 forward thing because then they would have to have a 7th D.

Just sucks

That's not really realistic either. They should have went with 11F last game so then they would have had an emergency call up to use now.

But, they can still add a 2C at the deadline. It may end up having to be more of a $ in $ out transaction, but they should be able to get some things done.

Keep in mind if we ever get fully healthy, we're actually about $1.5-2M under the cap anyway.

So for example trading Newhook + 1st for Horvat @50% retention would easily be doable. That trade would only be about $1.85M in cap space that we take on.

Can always pay a 3rd team a 3rd or 4th round pick for double retention on guys as well. Could do that to get Horvat @1.35M instead.

There is no way Vancouver would do Newhook +1st for Horvat, let alone with retention. Vancouver would at very least ask for Girard, and I dont think Avs are trading G. I mean if they were willing to trade Girard, they would just not resign Manson instead

Most Vancouver fans would do Horvat for significantly less than that

It certainly wouldn't cost Girard for a 1 year rental 2C

Vancouver has bunch of centers and everyone knows they lack good d-men. Why on earth would they use an asset like Horvat who's also their captain to get another center, and one that hasn't proven much in the NHL so far in Newhook?

Because they are very high on Newhook. They were in his draft year and still are.

They would absolutely take Newhook + 1st for a 1 year rental. That's really solid value for them.

Well I still don't think so, but if that really can be done, Sakic and MacFarland should have done it like yesterday
