As was just pointed out, it's literally impossible today. But at the trade deadline when we have more cap space it's a pretty reasonable possibility to happen.
Right now they have 6 mill cap space by using LTIR, if Vancouver retains half like you believe they would, it could work. When everyone returns, Landy and Helm off LTIR, won't they accumulate 2.75 mill in cap space in few months until the deadline?

No....?

You have to be under the cap to accumulate cap space lol. We would be way over.

Screw it, I hope they manage to get so ridiculously over the cap using LTIR that it's a farce. I want Toews and Kane at the deadline, full cap, then have them be "allergic" to their equipment. More LTIR. Don't worry, we will solve the allergies with reactine.

If they want to go mad, trade for Carey Price. $10.5M of LTIR space for the next 4 years.

Could explain why the Avs dragged out the Kadri negotiatons as long as they did. Wasn't there another poster here this summer claiming a player was expecting to be moved? We all assumed it was EJ
Well there was the thing about EJ almost being moved but it would have taken a 1st rounder.

I dont think Montreal can trade him. They are way over.
Seems like a lot of people are confused with how LTIR works.

The 92M is including Carey Price. The 10M LTIR relief is Carey Price.

So if you trade Price for nothing, then their projected cap hit drops by 10.5M and they aren't over the cap.

Adding someone on LTIR doesn't add more cap space, it's just that the player doesn't count against the cap (technically it's added but then there's a relief to compensate).

Where it can help is in a situation like Vegas last year when they swapped Dadonov (5M) for Weber (LTIR). That's 5M of additional cap space for Vegas because Dadonov counts against the cap and Weber doesn't.

Kinda like us trading EJ for Price. We'd get 6M of cap space.

Nashville fans talking about wanting to blow it up...

Could see Mikael Granlund being an interesting target.

64 points last year and 12 in 15 this year. He's very much a pass first player with just 11 goals last year and 1 so far this year

But I feel like we have enough goal scorers on this team that having a true playmaker Center as the 2C wouldn't be an issue at all.

Most importantly, he has a very reasonable $5M cap hit for this year and 2 more years after that, so not a super long term commitment for a 30+ player either.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he would cost a 1st + Newhook either.

Not the worst idea for sure. He is a decent player. Contract is very decent for a second line center.

If we could get Granlund and Jeannot I’d be a very happy boy

Isnt Granlund is playing RW right now. I'm not sure he'd be a center here.

He has played a lot of wing the last few seasons--the whole reason the Wylde moved on from him is because he didn't develop into the franchise pivot they were hoping for.

I think until recently this season, he was at center, but now they're trying that rookie Parssinen there and moving him to the wing.

There are worse options out there, but I hope they find something better. I've never been overly impressed with his game. He struck me as a big reason the Wylde never really did much in the Parise/Suter days.

Granlund has the 3rd most faceoffs taken on the Preds only behind RyJo and Sissons who takes a lot or Short Handed Faceoffs. 5 on 5 he's 2nd on the team.

I dunno the full scope of what they do but it's pretty clear Granlund is at least playing Center to take draws.

Realistically that would work just fine here as well. Whether he had Lehky, Landy, or Nuke on his wings any of them can take the burden of defensive responsibility a Center would normally have.

But I'm pretty sure Granlund has been a Center for the Preds at least this year.

Wouldn’t hate Granlund, but at most I’d pay is a 2nd + Beaucage.

Also god damn our prospect pool is pathetic. Can’t even pretend to have unrealistic hope for the majority of them because they’re having such poor years.
