I would not be surprised to see Toews moved next off season if Byram plays up to his potential and the Avalanche don't have the cap space to extend him. I would rather get one more run out of his steal of a contract.

I like Toews a lot aswell, but something's got to give with the LHD situation and lack of a 2C.

I would not be surprised to see Toews moved next off season if Byram plays up to his potential and the Avalanche don't have the cap space to extend him. I would rather get one more run out of his steal of a contract.

Yeah nothing probably happens until next off-season but then Toews would probably be the likeliest to be moved.

That said, getting Lundell already now on an ELC for two years to form a Finnish line of Lehkonen-Lundell-Rantanen would be pretty great value too.

After a Toews/Lundell swap the Avs would have $7.7m in capspace, so they can take on Hörnqvist with no issues, something like $1m retained ($4.3m aav) would leave $2.6m to cover bonuses with a 22 man roster (bonuses would be up to $4.4m with Lundell, but realistically $2.6m should cover that). With that retention Florida would still be under the cap with a 21 man roster (currently they can only ice a 20 man roster so that's an improvement for them).

That trade would solve the Avs 2C problem and they'd essentially have their entire top 6F and top 4D locked long-term:

Lehkonen ----- Lundell ------ Rantanen
Newhook ------ Meyers ------ xxxxx

Girard and Newhook for Sam Reinhart. Might be able to get away with a lesser prospect than Newhook or with Newhook might need a small add from their end. I know he has played more on the wing but I think that is because Barkov is the clear number 1 center. I seem to remember Buffalo fans saying he really came into his own at center when they were trying to sell his trade value on the boards last year.

It will be a group effort. There wasn't one guy available that we could fit in under the cap to replace Kadri but:

1- Nichushkin playing top 6 minutes all year. He should be good for 35 goals, 35 assists is not out of the question

2- Progression from Newhook. Especially if he is playing with Rantanen and Lehkonen. I'd expect 20 goals, 30 assists.

3- Scoring from our D. Makar should get 90, Toews 85, Byram 45, Girard 35

I think the best add should be for a 3rd line winger.

Thats about as solid as top 6 as it gets.

I like our 4th line of Cogliano- Meyers- Helm but we could really use a scoring winger to play next to Compher with O'Connor on his wing. Unless we like Blidh to play there to replace the role NAK had.

need way more than that...u cant jus throw in an SOB type and think it will be all good. Kadri brought some intangibles that will be hard to replace. people easily and very easily forget how for a large part of the season, a kadri line drove the avs and his performance in the playoffs speak for themselves. Mack needs a very good center to spot him, not jus an average one

I don’t think the Avs need an 80 point 2C, but they’ll need better than Compher imo.

My level of concern isn’t overly high right now because the young guys get a chance to prove themselves. If they fail, the Avs go out and get a low end 2C at the deadline. I don’t think they need an elite guy playing between the Fins on the second line.

Still believe the defence was the driving force behind the championship and that group could be even stronger this season.
