That's not the point
Isn't it the point, though? The 4th line is set, and we already have several potential call-ups as well. You're not going to find a 2/3C on a PTO, that's the only hole we have.

I imagine they'll sign a Glencross type to a PTO just to meet the veteran quota for preseason, but if you're getting your hopes up to add forwards on PTOs you're probably going to be disappointed.

I will say though, even if they’re planning to run a variation of Newhook/Meyers/Compher at 2/3C there’s a hole on the wing on the 3rd line.

Landy - Mack - Nichushkin
Lehk - Newhook - Rants
XX - Meyers - Compher
Cogliano - Helm - LOC

Im assuming they brought Sedlak exactly for that. and if he doesnt fit, theyll bump LOC.

Obviously its because of the broken thumb. But I think Avs would have won without him. 2-1 without him in the lineup vs Tampa and he wasn't a huge factor after reinsertion. No doubt he was important in the season too, but I think its clear Avs could beat the best (Tampa) with Compher as 2C

If Kadri doesn't score that beauty OT goal things could have been alot different in that series.

Sedlak or Blidh should play that 3rd line wing to replace NAK

The Eakin’s of the world don’t really have a place on this roster. The 4th line is set.

If you dig last year's thread around this time of year, it looked very similar. We lost Saad, we lost Donskoi, our Center line suck, Kadri is a nut case who can't be relied on when it counts, Nich is a 3rd line player, we have no depth, we have no right hand D depth, Kuemper is a wlaking hospital, etc... catastrophy, fire Joe, ...

The cup ain't won on Day one of the 82 games regular season. Kadri turned into a superb 2C, Nich into a great 2nd line wing, EJ stayed healthy. Jost sucked bad, Newhook was OK, Byram had health issues. And Joe did what was needed before trade deadline.

Same story this year. There are a few question marks, and a bit of cap space. You don't want to miss. So stay patient, watch the story unfold, and act when the time is right. Patience == Sleepy Joe.

I was a naysayer last year. Not this year. I trust the FO to get the right things done before the playoffs

What was the Avs record without Kadri ? Avs didn't need him at all

I did the actual stats before in another thread, but of his 11 games missed, we won 10 (or something similar to that). Jared Bednar has a next man up mentality through this group.

I wouldn't count out one / two of the players like Bowers, Kaut, Ohlasson to not only lift this coming season, but excel. This club develops talent - they turn good players into amazing players:

Nichushkin, Burakovsky, Kadri as examples that went to completely different levels in and around this playing group. Newhook actually improved exponentially in one season, despite being sat for a while.

what was the avs record without mack? it was 13-3-1 during the regular season. So i guess they didnt need him at all then? Without kadri it was 9-1-1. No disrespect but lets leave it there. lets see how the season pans out without a high end 2c, then we can revisit the discussion.

What's wrong with it?
Cheddar is good, swiss is good, provolone is good.

A lot of things... the texture is somewhere between a warm candle and beeswax. With zero cheese pull. The flavor basically combines the absolute worst of those cheeses... it is like they said, let's make it tangy! Then to do so, they used butyric acid. Then to really make sure you know they used provolone... cranked up the liquid smoke to 11. Let's forget about any of the richness of a good cheddar and make it as bland as Swiss with a hint of butter that has been in your fridge open for 3 months.

I’m actually shocked

There's no guarantee he's up to it. Two million takes away from the flexibility to so something more substantial at the TDL. It's this late and he's still not signed and the Avs still go out on a limb for 2 million on a guy who has a lot to prove.
We need another forward or two as it is. Getting a good fit for 2mil isn’t a desperate move at all

First 42 games, 32 points. Last 40 games, 11 points.

Also, first 33 games, 30 points. Last 49 games, 13 points.
Sure, but you could say that for so many 30-40 point players. They run hot and cold.

The production is a part of him. The question is, what is he doing and how is contributing if he’s not scoring? Is he providing positive benefit when not scoring? PK quality?

He’s being paid 2M. Expectations should be set with his salary.

Yeah all lower end players tend to run hot and cold... they don't usually run so hot for 30 games and then so cold for 50 though.

I think he's a perfectly good depth player and I have zero issues with him at $2m. I've actually liked him for a while as long as you are reasonable with who he is (I suggested signing him last summer).

But what does he do when he's not scoring?
