If you can't get Gibson I've maintained the Avs should find a goalie no more expensive than 3M max.

Go build the best team possible and win it again with subpar goaltending. If that means James Reimer, f*** it. Go build a 2nd line, go build an absurd defensive corps where EJ can relax and play 14 minutes/night during the season, go build the strongest team possible.

If you look, you can find stats to paint any picture. But here is one... of any goalie that played more than 20 games last season, Gibson had the highest save percentage of high danger shots. Better than Sorokin, better than Igor.

Here's the thing with Anaheim and it has been a problem for a while. They get pinned in their own zone heavily to where Gibson has to freeze the puck at a very high level (way, way too high) since they can't get the puck out of their own zone. Then you have a team that isn't very good at faceoffs (especially in their own zone). He gets pelted with medium and short range shots over and over there upon losing faceoffs and that allows a lot of set plays to be run against them. Where even if he makes a save or two, they can get out of hand quickly and lead to goals. I can't publish the data, but Anaheim has one of the worst rates of goals off own zone faceoff time (it is absurdly bad). They get hammered off faceoff losses and terrible coaching against set plays.

But it comes with one of the worst low and medium danger save percentages in the league. What good is a highlight reel save of the next time down the ice you give up a goal on a muffin shot from outside.

What is the obsession with MAF here? Dude has been pulled in all recent playoff series. And only had playoff success once.
The obsession is that we just watched our favorite team win a Stanley Cup with good awful goaltending and Fleury would come cheap AF. Worst case scenario he plays like Kuemper did in these playoffs except he’ll do it for a fraction of the cost.

I don’t think anyone expects Fleury to be amazing. It’s the cheap contract

He doesn't let in many muffins... some yeah, but no worse than the rest of the league. Gibson's issues are more systemic than anything else and it is how Eakins has his defense setup for those types of shots. Gibson prior to Eakins = Elite. Gibson with Eakins = terrible. Gibson isn't the problem......

I am not sure the Fleury love either, except that he might come cheap.

He is not better than what we currently have, at-least in the playoffs, so what is the point.

If we are going Fleury over Kemp, might as well just do Frankie over kemp and sign Frankies backup for a couple of years.

I don’t think we would’ve won with Fleury but that’s me

You said it right there.

The goalie market isn't great. Fleury, at worst, is a lateral move that frees up cap space to possibly keep, or sign, a Manson-type player.

My preference is trading for Gibson, but I will take MAF on 2 years cheapish over 5-6 years of Kuemper at $5m+ AAV.

I'm probably the only one who cares about that kind of stuff but I find it interesting that the Sportsnet guys and TSN guys are quoting and naming each other now. That didn't happen before. Friedman even mentioned "Pierre" in his last podcast...

If Kuemper is in the mid 4s, I really don't have a problem bringing him back. It is when the dollar amount gets around 5 and nearing 6 where issues really come up. At that price, I'd rather either get a guy that solves to position or just go super cheap and tandem the net. Maybe make a move to shore it up at the deadline if it looks shakey in January.
