Here's what I know...

We won't have the luxury of Kadri as a 2C.

We won't have a 25 goal guy in Burakovsky as a complimentary piece.

We won't have a Manson who brings something that nobody else other than a healthy EJ brings.

I *know* our forwards and defense will not be as deep next season, so we need to improve in the area that we sucked the most in; goaltending. Kuemper was 23rd of 24 goalies who faced a shot in the playoffs in most statistical categories. He's a f***ing sieve.

Pony up, bring in a good goaltender that offsets the losses of our depth, and give this team the best chance at winning more Cups.

Kuemper, on a bigger contract and behind a weaker team, is not going to get job done.

I tend to agree with this... but I'd add, if you're not getting a better goalie (Gibson)... be cheap there and build up the depth. Get a cheap 1-2m guy and build as strong of 2nd line as you can along with grabbing a solid RD (likely has to be a deadline thing).

Who? Nashville gonna trade Saros to us?

Kuemper had a great regular season, and for all his faults in the playoffs, had a pretty spectacular games 4 and 6 when it really mattered. I'm willing to gamble that he was still struggling with injury and would bounce back.

The Avs seem pretty committed to Annunen and it wouldn't be surprising if this is the progression plan they have for him:

2 years as the AHL starter, 2 years as backup to Kuemper to see if he has started potential, and then giving him the net after that.

The main takeaway here being that Kuemper for 3-4 years is probably what they'd ideally like to do.

He had a pretty awful start and finish to the season. And yes, he had the freak injury, but he still put up historically bad numbers for a Cup-winning goaltender. You also can't ignore the fact that he's 32 and already struggles with his lateral ability. If you hitch your wagon to him long-term you're taking a huge risk

I don't give a f***, let Kevin Weekes cover the draft by himself. Show him travelling everywhere. Drop videos with randoms. Commit a felony or two in the process while streaming.

Give me all Weekesy all the time baby.

"Hey sports fans, I'm here outside Dreger's kids' elementary school, it's almost lunch time. The Flyers have traded a 7th for Patrik Nemeth and heeeere we gooo!"

Everyone was bad at the end of the season. I’m convinced they were actively trying to avoid the President’s Trophy.

"Hey hockey fans! Weekesy here outside Cook County jail. Shout out my boy Dregsy ha ha! See you real soon. Looks like the #GoBoltsGo are re-signing Ondrej Palat. Let's go draft day!"

I just don't see any other good options. Despite his ups and downs, Kuemper had the 5th best save percentage last year. The clear upgrades are not available unless you want to go with someone like Price, but his contract is poison.

The only interesting UFA's are MAF (as of this moment) and Campbell. Both of those guys had lower lows than Kuemper did last year.

If he's better, it should show up somewhere. His metrics last year were just short of Grubauer level bad.

If you look, you can find stats to paint any picture. But here is one... of any goalie that played more than 20 games last season, Gibson had the highest save percentage of high danger shots. Better than Sorokin, better than Igor.

Here's the thing with Anaheim and it has been a problem for a while. They get pinned in their own zone heavily to where Gibson has to freeze the puck at a very high level (way, way too high) since they can't get the puck out of their own zone. Then you have a team that isn't very good at faceoffs (especially in their own zone). He gets pelted with medium and short range shots over and over there upon losing faceoffs and that allows a lot of set plays to be run against them. Where even if he makes a save or two, they can get out of hand quickly and lead to goals. I can't publish the data, but Anaheim has one of the worst rates of goals off own zone faceoff time (it is absurdly bad). They get hammered off faceoff losses and terrible coaching against set plays.

Get you some of that Dallas Eakins swarm baby.

I mean Soupy was putting up a Vezina season behind a mediocre at best defense until the wheels fell off a bit, but yeah. Not having a #1 signed isn't exactly an enviable position to be in right now. It's why I'm personally leaning towards a short-term option
