He was supposed become a huge star when he used to play in Columbus. I saw him as a rather regular "giraffe"-type player with no real star-qualities. He has been rather underwhelming the past few years. Could definitely be acquired with rather low price if we wantee him. He might even be be a good fit.

Has he been in the talks at some point?

He's on the trade block. He's 30 and the Hawks are rebuilding. I haven't heard that HuGo are interested. I've just heard some Habs fans mention him.

Even though the cap is going up, HuGo have in the past been careful not to bring in bad contracts. But they could change their approach with the cap going up.

When he started off in Columbus he was really good at both ends of the ice. But it seems he's failed off. I haven't seen much of him recently. Maybe he's lost a step. He used to cover the ice really well. We've seen dmen get old quickly, like Subban, Mike Green, and Dion Phaneuff. They once had it. And then they didn't.

Gainey’s inability to negotiate during the season “to avoid distractions” was an incredible sign of his ineptness and lack of ambition.

Everything else makes sense when you consider that we acquired a tottering old man as a GM.

He just wanted to make everybody feel good and return the spirit (artificial) and make current fans feel connected to the old dynasty days. Ended up being charming PR, but a bad GM.

Probably not, instead of proper rebuild, Flames are doing a retool. They would keep both Weegar and Andersson.

Vancouver got rid of Miller which means EP should play better now. Chytil is a two-way center and he should get more opportunities in Vancouver.
And they then used the 1st they got to get a LHD who played 22 minutes a night for Pitts and some depth. Should improve their D, there wasn't much after Hughes and Hronek.

Also, they traded the older players every time (Heinen vs O'Connor, Miller vs Chytil, the two Ds are the same age).

Not sure if Evans can be re-signed at a discount, but if he's asking for the moon, then sell high. Gallagher, Matheson, Dach, and Anderson can also be thrown in there. I think you are very mistaken on the return for the above 3 players. And those three are exactly the type of player that often are over paid for

Returns may be underwhelming but depends on demand and fit. So New Jersey wants a 3C and secondary scoring, but have limited Cap space I think. If you can provide those players and retain so they can afford them, then you get paid for that.

While a hockey trade can happen, outside of Evans we don't have any players worth much in a trade that are UFA, so I don't have expectations. Maybe we just keep everyone and leave a few 3rd/4th rounders on the table. No problem, let them compete.

I agree with the Savy return, maybe even too high. He's been downright terrible this year. Love the heart he plays with but he can't skate. It's been a solid career for him.

Now, I'm not saying faceoffs aren't important, as they are.

Dvorak has taken an average of 12 faceoffs a game with the Habs as their best centre. The team acquiring him likely has a centre just as good as him on the dot, so there's a good chance he takes even less draws with his new team.

However, you are correct and Jeannot was never worth that haul, but to equate that to what Dvorak could get isn't going to happen.

Whatever the Habs get for him, if they can trade him would be the other team paying for the retention spot the Habs used on him.

Hell, the Habs might even look to move him for a similar player with a contract ending who's been underwhelming like Dvorak and not even get a pick

If Chytil can be a good two way center for him who blossoms in that role that would be great.
