I would prefer Weegar.

Is Weeger available? Flames are a playoff team.

He was supposed become a huge star when he used to play in Columbus. I saw him as a rather regular "giraffe"-type player with no real star-qualities. He has been rather underwhelming the past few years. Could definitely be acquired with rather low price if we wantee him. He might even be be a good fit.

Has he been in the talks at some point?

He's on the trade block. He's 30 and the Hawks are rebuilding. I haven't heard that HuGo are interested. I've just heard some Habs fans mention him.

Even though the cap is going up, HuGo have in the past been careful not to bring in bad contracts. But they could change their approach with the cap going up.

When he started off in Columbus he was really good at both ends of the ice. But it seems he's failed off. I haven't seen much of him recently. Maybe he's lost a step. He used to cover the ice really well. We've seen dmen get old quickly, like Subban, Mike Green, and Dion Phaneuff. They once had it. And then they didn't.

Gainey did the same thing for years, that walking turd couldn't sign a top 6 player for all of Koivus career. After Kovalev he just disconnected the phone 😆
Gainey’s inability to negotiate during the season “to avoid distractions” was an incredible sign of his ineptness and lack of ambition.

Everything else makes sense when you consider that we acquired a tottering old man as a GM.

He just wanted to make everybody feel good and return the spirit (artificial) and make current fans feel connected to the old dynasty days. Ended up being charming PR, but a bad GM.

Vancouver got rid of Miller which means EP should play better now. Chytil is a two-way center and he should get more opportunities in Vancouver.
And they then used the 1st they got to get a LHD who played 22 minutes a night for Pitts and some depth. Should improve their D, there wasn't much after Hughes and Hronek.

Also, they traded the older players every time (Heinen vs O'Connor, Miller vs Chytil, the two Ds are the same age).

I think it's time to throw in the towel and explore the possibilities of selling Savard, Armia, Dvorak and Pez. Not sure if Evans can be re-signed at a discount, but if he's asking for the moon, then sell high. Gallagher, Matheson, Dach, and Anderson can also be thrown in there. Stockpile on picks and prospects, draft well. That Slaf extension will

Returns will be very underwhelming, and not all will be traded

Savard - lucky to get a 3rd round pick
Armia - 3rd round pick
Dvorak - 5th round pick

Evans is only one who has proper value and we should be looking to keep him.

I think you are very mistaken on the return for the above 3 players. And those three are exactly the type of player that often are over paid for
Many hm become fools come trade deadline .

Returns may be underwhelming but depends on demand and fit. So New Jersey wants a 3C and secondary scoring, but have limited Cap space I think. If you can provide those players and retain so they can afford them, then you get paid for that.

While a hockey trade can happen, outside of Evans we don't have any players worth much in a trade that are UFA, so I don't have expectations. Maybe we just keep everyone and leave a few 3rd/4th rounders on the table. No problem, let them compete.

Dvorak being a center will go for at least a second . We dislike him but come deadline jeannot was traded for 5 picks! (1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th !!!that’s a guy with 47!career goals ! He had less then hahah. And when traded had 5 yes 5 goals

I agree with the Savy return, maybe even too high. He's been downright terrible this year. Love the heart he plays with but he can't skate. It's been a solid career for him.

Armia.....probably a 3rd yup

Dvo....he might get something a little higher because of his position.

You're in for a disappointment lmao

I will eat my socks if Dvo gets a 2nd rounder in return

What can Dvorak do that Jeannot can't/doesn't.

Win faceoffs.

What can Jeannot do that Dvorak can't/doesn't.

Hit
Fight
Create intimidation
Didn't require retention to be traded.

What do both Jeannot and Dvorak do ?

PK
Struggling to score.

Now, I'm not saying faceoffs aren't important, as they are.

Dvorak has taken an average of 12 faceoffs a game with the Habs as their best centre. The team acquiring him likely has a centre just as good as him on the dot, so there's a good chance he takes even less draws with his new team.

However, you are correct and Jeannot was never worth that haul, but to equate that to what Dvorak could get isn't going to happen.

Whatever the Habs get for him, if they can trade him would be the other team paying for the retention spot the Habs used on him.

Hell, the Habs might even look to move him for a similar player with a contract ending who's been underwhelming like Dvorak and not even get a pick

If Chytil can be a good two way center for him who blossoms in that role that would be great.

Let's see. We only need EP to be a good regular season player to get the Canucks into the playoffs - and to oust the Flames...

Armia and Dvorak, if those are the best offers, I'm taking them. But between the two, I'd rather keep Armia because he's still useful.

As for Savard, if the best offer is a 3rd round pick. I'd rather keep him. I believe his value to our own young players is higher than a 3rd round pick.

I’ve never understood this line of thinking with vets on expiring contracts, especially Savard.

He won’t be back next year

What’s an extra 3 months of “mentorship” gonna do for the young ones? He’s on his last legs and what exctjy is he gonna teach them?

You take anything you can get for all of Armia, Savard Anderson, Gallagher and Evans and run.

You must be joking,right?
Last year there were 40 forward who reached 45-55 pts. Highest paid was Huberdeau, lowest was Tommy Novak on 0.8M and 4 players on ELC. Median value was 5M. His contract is 7.6M which in year 3 would be equivalent to 5.59M of last year.
It basically means without any improvement, his contract would be OK in year 4 already.
If 50-60 points is now worth 7.6 mil/yr, then we cannot blame the players anymore. That's on the GMs who grant them these ridiculous sums. That's why you have untradeable Anderson/Gallagher on your team right now and for another 2 seasons.

Blame the fans who pay for the product and thus set the salary cap.

Habs will keep them instead of those low returns

Canucks biggest issues were the EP/Miller rift and that Soucy is playing too much. They fixed both, got a middle 6 center, got younger and created some cap space. They are a better balanced team now, should result in more wins...and they will have $10m at the deadline to fix any other holes.
