With Meyers already there I'm also doubting we see Helm back.

Who knows though. I trust Joe.

I think cogs signing was a decision between him and helm, which is why they gave him a slight raise.

Cogliano - Meyers - O’Connor

What id kinda like to see now is a Compher trade to free up a bit of space and sign Colin white to a show me deal.

I wouldn't be totally shocked to see Helm come back, and Meyers to start the year at 3C.

JTC - Meyers - Newhook
LOC - Helm - Cogliano

Or I could see them grabbing a cheap 3C like Stastny with Meyers at 4C and if Meyers really excels he could jump up to 3C later in the year.

What the Avs do at center will be interesting. They made moves to shore up the position and move Newhook to wing (signals to me they don't like him at center). Avs are losing Kadri. Helm is an unknown if he will come back. Compher... not ideal at center, but Avs haven't seemed to mind him. Seems to me that even with Meyers in the fold, the Avs are down a NHL center. Then when you dip in the the 13F/AHL level, Avs are really lacking centers.
If we theoretically signed Trochek we’d be rocking

Could definitely use another C there as I still don’t think JT is the best fit at 3C.

Rodrigues is absolutely someone I expect the Avs to have interest in for Free Agency. Very much fits the mold of players they target.

Meyers should play higher than 4th line anyway. The guy has scoring potential.

Yep. I have been saying for a while a 3rd line of Meyers, Newhook and Compher would work quite well.

Landy- Mack- Nuke
Lehkonen- ? - Rantanen
Newhook- Meyers- Compher
Cogliano- Sedlak- O'Connor

Sturm?
Aube Kubel?
Helm?

Build that depth. It's a huge reason we won the Cup.

Bring back Nuke, Helm, Lehk. Sign Trocheck for the 2C spot. Meyers can center the 3rd line. Find a bottom pairing RD and a goalie. Go back to war.

If we have to make a choice between a new goalkeeper + Compher as 2C or Frankie as starter + 2C like Trocheck, I would prefer the latter. Just don’t forget to get some experienced backup before TDL and we shall be fine.

Compher will more than likely be our 3C. We've hated it for years but it has never changed, and now they've won a cup to justify it.

MacKinnon - ??? - Compher - Meyers

That 2C hole is going to be a big one for Sakic this summer. Kadri is as good as gone IMO.

No thanks on Rodrigues. Obviously this will occur to anyone regarding scoring drying up getting moved down the lineup but once the Penguins got healthy the guy fell off a cliff.

He also took one of the dumbest retaliation penalties in that series vs NYR that ended up costing them.

Easy pass.

He won't be worth the money he gets... but paid as an average 3rd liner, I think he's a solid piece.

Wonder what Malkin's ask will be? He's definitely an upgrade over Kadri. No way Kadri can repeat this year again.

I am of a different opinion. I have a few friends who are diehard Penguins fans and they are dreading the Pens resigning him to a big money contract with any kind of term. Malkin's body is broken down from all the long years and it's unclear how much is left in his tank. Unlike Crosby, I don't think he was a difference maker in the Penguins' loss to the Rangers in 7 games. I would prefer Kadri over him assuming AAV is similar.

But for me, I think we should prioritize getting someone younger and at a lower AAV to try in the role (or continue the approach we took in the playoffs and see if Rantanen or Landeskog can drive the 2nd line) and if we need to spend assets at the TDL to bolster second line scoring, then we make the move then.

I'd personally try to grab Pysyk and then address the issue at the deadline if needed.

Do you have any bold forecasts for RHD this year like your "Manson will be an Av by the TDL" claim last year?

As far as I can tell from the capfriendly list of RHD UFA's in 2023 the ones who seem like the best options from teams somewhat likely to miss the playoffs would be Severson, Zub, Mayfield, and Schenn.

Then there's also a couple of LHS Dmen who can play on the right side and who would be of interest, Gavrikov and Soucy.

I'd be contacting the Sens about Zub. Think he's a good shutdown guy that may be a good longish-term partner for Bo

I doubt that's actually Blake's plan A. GM's hold their cards close to their chest this time of year, and obviously for the purposes of trade negotiations he won't want to seem like he's desperate to trade a RHD or to acquire a LHD. He'll definitely continue to be in the market for a LHD and also listening to offers on their RHD's.
