Was hoping we could get cogs at vet minimum but overly happy we get that leadership for another year.
I would take Manson back at 4x4, he'll easily outplay that contract. He's going to score 30+ points on the Avs while being a physical force.
He was damn important in the playoffs. Without him the Avs d core becomes alot easier to play against. Manson was a mean SOB but in control throughout the run. Not sure about the money and term but I really like him.I would take Manson back at 4x4, he'll easily outplay that contract. He's going to score 30+ points on the Avs while being a physical force.
31-35 is still the prime of his career. Without Manson you're looking at EJ as our only physical presence who might break at anytime. He's about to turn 31 years old while already not the player he was 2-3 years ago.... And you want to give him a 4 year deal?
Man, I am happy Joe Sakic is our GM.
Tax? If anything we should have a Stanley Cup discount from guys wanting to play hereStanley cup tax. We'll have that now.
I mean we’ve seen many other dmen of that ilk go from good to bad to non NHL level in a short period of time. I mean I loved him during our run, but there’s a good chance that contract is a bad one here very soon.I would take Manson back at 4x4, he'll easily outplay that contract. Uhhhhhhhhh31-35 is still the prime of his career. Without Manson you're looking at EJ as our only physical presence who might break at anytime.
Primes are pretty much over at 28-29 except for the high end players. By 32-33, regression is hitting hard. Manson started regressing about 4 years ago... earlier than most. I would say odds are higher that he'll be out of the NHL at 34 than him putting up prime levels of play at any point in his next contract.31-35 is still the prime of his career. Without Manson you're looking at EJ as our only physical presence who might break at anytime.
I'm thinking they probably let NAK walk unless he's willing to come back at much less than $1M. His qualifying offer is $1.225M and I doubt the Avs offer him that, though I could be wrong.hopefully that extra 250K or so doesn't hurt us somewhere else...
Given the dude was claimed off waivers and did nothing in the playoffs, I'm perfectly fine letting him walk.I'm thinking they probably let NAK walk unless he's willing to come back at much less than $1M. His qualifying offer is $1.225M and I doubt the Avs offer him that, though I could be wrong.
There are going to be a number of vets who are available at or near the league minimum who can provide roughly what he can provide at a lesser rate, imo.
Here's our Manson replacement at RD

I'd personally try to grab Pysyk and then address the issue at the deadline if needed.I wouldn't mind the Avs taking a look at either Ethan Bear via trade or Mark Pysyk as a UFA on D.
Yes yes yes. Look at Tampa. I know the appeal of the Florida lifestyle, great stripclubs and amazing cocaine is extra perks but guys wanna go there in part because they have cup pedigree. Guys willing to sign for the lowski there. Hell im hearing Giroux might wanna come to Edmonton just because they made the WCF. People should wanna come to Denver at a discount now. The chance to be around Cale Makar and go to that f***in river is reason enough to shave off a few mill.Tax? If anything we should have a Stanley Cup discount from guys wanting to play here
Teams really don't like arbitration cases... NAK would likely have to be a sign and trade situation.NAK is someone I could see having sneaky value to a team like Montreal. He showed some decent offense after joining us and there's some teams desperate for some extra offense from a 3rd line. NAK is scrappy as well.
I'd give NAK his QO and then see if Montreal is interested in giving us a mid-late round pick for him, sort of thing. Like a 5th rounder or something.
With Meyers already there I'm also doubting we see Helm back.
Who knows though. I trust Joe.
