I'd be contacting the Sens about Zub. Think he's a good shutdown guy that may be a good longish-term partner for Bo

Yeah I'm with you on that. He's a mobile and smart defender who would fit Bednar's system quite well.

There's also obviously plenty of appeal with Mayfield given his playoff experience. Those two will probably be the top guys teams target one would think.

That said, I think Schenn would be a sneaky good fit too, and perhaps come closest to replicating the nastiness lost with Manson. If we continue to roll Toews-Makar and Byram-EJ which were successful this postseason then Schenn with his size would be a good partner for Girard, as he was with Quinn last season. He also likely wouldn't cost more than a 3rd to acquire and would probably also be cheap to keep around beyond the season too.

Toews - Makar
Byram - EJ
Girard - Schenn
JJ

Schenn has even less puck skills than Erik Gudbranson IMO. Not a fit here at all.

His skating makes Manson look like Makar. I'll take dman who isn't quite as physical as Manson but who is at least mobile enough to keep up.

Yah too much smoke. FLA should actually be the one to take a run at him. Florida kid and all.
Florida don't have a 1st round pick in the next 3 drafts so that'll be tough for them to pull off if they get into a bidding war with LA who have a loaded asset pool.

Do you have any bold forecasts for RHD this year like your "Manson will be an Av by the TDL" claim last year?

As far as I can tell from the capfriendly list of RHD UFA's in 2023 the ones who seem like the best options from teams somewhat likely to miss the playoffs would be Severson, Zub, Mayfield, and Schenn.

Then there's also a couple of LHS Dmen who can play on the right side and who would be of interest, Gavrikov and Soucy.

Zub and Mayfield would be the two most likely. MDZ will eventually end up an Av too

As I said Zub and Mayfield would be the clear top two choices. They'll also be a lot more expensive. I'd love to add Zub and bump EJ down to Girard's pairing:

Toews - Makar
Byram - Zub
Girard - EJ

Zub would be amazing. But what do you guys think about PK Subban here on a much lesser role? Maybe too galaxy brain of a move that can back fire hard.

I mean the Shotgun Willies isn’t too far from Ball arena

Well Subban is one of the worst defensemen in the league at this point and he makes Kurtis MacDermid look like Paul Coffey. So yeah. No.
I wouldn’t go that far… Subban sucks but he’s not worse than Macdermid.

Cogs signing is a good start even if a small one. The way I see it, our 4th line and 13th forward slot are now set for next season... We should be looking at:

LOC - Meyers - Cogliano
Sedlak

Small pieces but important to know what you've got before heading into the bigger negotiations this summer. I was hoping Cogs would come in at around $1M, 250k more isn't a huge deal though.

Where does MacDermid come into play? Sakic signed hi at 2 x $987,500. So he is either the 13F or the 7D, no?
