Picking up the slack since @Adam Michaels is probably on a terrace somewhere sipping a Bobby Margarita :sarcasm:

3R Lions signed a Swedish D for next season. The Swedish site mentions it’s a 2-way contract.

Former CBJ 4th rounder, 6’4 200, it seems the organisational remedy for having small forwards is a big D-core

It's pretty incredible that veteran AHL players with pretty much no NHL future make $400,000 a year to play in the minors. That has to be top 1% of earners in society, or close to it.

An advantage Montreal has and should use as it's a good tool to attract some good vets who know they'll most likely top out in the AHL. So Montreal is a place they know they can make a good living even if they're in the minors. The top notch facilities helps also.

Player : ''I play hockey and I make more than doctors''
Person : ''Oh nice you play for the Habs?''
Player : ''No I'm in the minors lol''

The main advantage is the proximity to Montreal, not every player wants to spend the season in Butt F-ck Nowhere when he gets sent down to the AHL.

If Butt F-ck Nowhere offers them $400K to play in the AHL, then those players will sign in Butt F-ck Nowrguedhere.
Funny for you to be saying this, in our previous discussion you argued that the money doesn't matter to them, and players would pick a lower AHL salary as part of an NHL contract over signing an AHL only contract guaranteeing them a much bigger amount.

You surely have me confused with someone else. Because I would never say they would accept less money as part of an NHL contract.

In fact, for some players, being on a two-way deal, they get paid more as part of their AHL salary (like Maillet, Andersson, Stephens & Keeper).

Not many teams can guarantee a salary between $350K to $450K if a player plays in the AHL, let alone for 4 guys.

If Montreal didn't offer that, but Butt F-ck Nowhere did, you can bet your ass they'd sign in Butt F-ck Nowhere.

It was you actually, we were discussing whether a rich team like Montreal should be using their financial strength to sign players to AHL only contracts. As an example, Alex Belzille is getting $775,000 on the NHL portion of his contract this year and $450,000 in the AHL. I argued that if Montreal wanted him, to offer him an AHL deal of $1,000,000. You argued that he wouldn't sign that even if it is more than double what he is getting on his 2 way NHL contract, and higher than what he would get if he played the whole year in New York.

Andersson - Maillet - Pitlick
Heineman - Stephens - Simoneau
Farrell - Gignac - Roy
Condotta - Mysak - Mesar
Bourque - Kidney - Davidson
McKay, Novak, Voyer, Parker-Jones

Struble - Wideman
Trudeau - Mailloux
Norlinder - Keeper
Beaudin - Bisson
Galipeau - Tourigny
Laaouan

Thanks for this post. It's good to see an estimate.

I don't like to see Farrell, Mysak, Mesar, Roy, Kidney, so far down the depth chart, but it's also the case that mathematically speaking, Laval will be twice as impacted by injuries as the Habs.

Now I remember this convo. You're argument was why would they sign Maillet to an NHL deal instead of an AHL deal. I said he wouldn't sign here if the Canadiens offered him an AHL deal only. And you were saying that he was an idiot if he'd turn down an AHL deal that would pay him $1M.

Meanwhile, while you're trying to make your dumb point, you neglect to realize that a lot of players in the NHL make less than $1M. And you want a guy in the minors to make more than them on an AHL deal. Holy-unrealistic-salary-structure Batman!

Belzile in NYR: 2 x $775K (Year 1 is a 2-way that pays $450K ($500K guaranteed) / Year 2 is 1-way @ $775K)
Maillet in MTL: 1 x $775K ($350K in AHL ($400K guaranteed).

Another reason not to sign Maillet or anyone else to an AHL contract is that another NHL team can poach him at any time. If you don't care, then fine. But if you want him under contract you actually have to offer him a contract.

I find it fair. It’s a nonsense that an awful 13th forward makes 700k and a top liner in the AHL would make 100k

Looking at the list of still unsigned UFA's , the only name that looks interesting is Riley Barber, a career AHLer who puts up a point per game. I know he had a short stint in Laval under the previous regime and coaching staff,. Any interest in adding a veteran to boost the team surrounding the kids to take some of the offensive pressure off them? Generally teams without solid vets fair poorly in the AHL.

Was he someone the previous management moved on from due to not liking his attitude?
