That is logical. Only problem is, like the Habs did with Montembeault, a team could claim Primeau because one of their goalies is hurt. Habs claimed Monty because they knew Price wasn't going to be healthy.

Yeah that's what I was trying to transcribe, they expect him to pass through unless a situation comes up like when Price was hurt and we claimed Monty.

I'm a bit surprised about Abbandonato, I guess they didn't see much in him outside of a small depth guy in the AHL. I liked him , he was a solid contributor last season.

his production fell off badly at the end after a really good run there. I would have brought him back but it's so tight now of course with all the new prospects incoming.

Stephens, Maillet, Roy, Kidney, Mesar, Mysak, Simoneau, Gignac, Andersson, Condotta, Davidson, McKay, Parker-Jones....

Then you have the possibility of having Farrell, Heineman, RHP and/or Ylonen if any of them get cut from Habs camp.

Full schedule will be released tomorrow. But the Rocket will face Abbotsford on Friday, October 13th. I don't know if it's the season opener or the home opener (or both).

He hasn't wowed me in any way, especially production wise, but he does seem to be well respected in the locker room. He's on a one way deal, so there's going to be some continuity with the leadership core, that's always nice to have at that level.

Another vet returns. The captain once Belzile was called up. Laval now has enough vets to help the influx of young players.

Between Montreal and Laval/Trois-Rivieres, we have a LOT of bodies now.

24 NHLers, excluding Price but including 1 player on IR (Dvorak?)

20 NHL contracts in Laval including Mesar and the two guys who got qualifying offers

12 AHL one-way contracts (how much room for ANY of them in Laval??)

2 AHL two-way contracts, surely will have to go to TR

6 ECHL contracts

8 ECHLers who got qualifying offers.

We still need a 7th goalie in the system, even if we do not lose Primeau on waivers.

This is a big logjam.

Not a problem though, with all the injuries during the seasons

It kind of often looks like a logjam until it doesn't, but objectively it is a lot of bodies. You have players in Laval that were solid regulars in previous years who don't crack the lineup based on a depth chart.

Many where regular because of injuries though, it will give the Lions a break

Below is a rough depth chart, based on the assumption that the Habs keep 14 forwards and 7 defencemen. I've bolded players who are either established AHL regulars that don't crack the lineup, or rookies that will have to play in the ECHL, because you don't want them sitting in the stands. Obviously, the pecking order is a rough estimate, but I just wanted to highlight the number of spare regulars/demoted rookies.

Andersson - Maillet - Pitlick
Heineman - Stephens - Simoneau
Farrell - Gignac - Roy
Condotta - Mysak - Mesar
Bourque - Kidney - Davidson
McKay, Novak, Voyer, Parker-Jones

Struble - Wideman
Trudeau - Mailloux
Norlinder - Keeper
Beaudin - Bisson
Galipeau - Tourigny
Laaouan

I agree it is good news for the Lions.

I can guarantee you none of Bourque, Beaudin & Bisson will play in 3R.

When did I say that he will?

I understand that. My point is that with a relatively healthy roster we have either solid regulars reduced to depth roles, or prospects demoted to 3R.
I did know what you said and I was kind of joking, but honestly if there are no injuries, almost none of the one-way AHL contracted players will be playing in the AHL

I'm sorry. I thought you were joking, but just went with the safest route and assumed malign intentions :P.

Bourque was a depth guy last year, too. Even with all the injuries and call ups, Bourque still mostly played a Bottom-6 role. Also, Beaudin and Tobie-Bisson are AHL regulars. Galipeau will be in 3R before either of them. I would have him in bolded before Bisson and Beaudin.

I also noticed you put Pitlick and Wideman on the Laval roster. Not to say they won't be sent to Laval at some point, I just wouldn't pencil them in yet. And because of that, you have some guys who were bumped.

Adam, I think you ought to read my post again, or I should have stated my thoughts more clearly. I have bolded Beaudin and Bisson precisely because they are AHL regulars who deserve to play, but have no guaranteed place in the lineup with a healthy roster. I did not imply they are gonna be send to 3R. Demotion was meant for prospects, because you don't want them to be healthy scratches.

I also noticed you put Pitlick and Wideman on the Laval roster. Not to say they won't be sent to Laval at some point, I just wouldn't pencil them in yet. And because of that, you have some guys who were bumped.

Unless they are claimed off waivers, or unless there are injuries in Montreal, they will have to send some players down, because they currently have 8 defencemen and 15 forwards once Ylonen signs.
