2019 6th rounder Danil Savunov popping off recently. He’s skated on lines with Podkolzin (VAN), Marchenko (CBJ), Michkov (23), and others. Listed 5-9’ or 5-10’, not the size BA seeks, but could be some value down the road. Signed through next season, he’s in a good spot since SKA St. Petersburg (KHL) is loaded with vets.

I watched game last night . He’s creating offensive chance but isn’t getting bounces right now. He’s also learning that some of the stuff he was successful with at a lower level doesn’t translate against 22/23 year old D men. He will figure it out and points will follow.
Reminds me of Matt Boldy, who I wanted over Chayka's brilliant move to grab Soderstrom. Boldy got off to an extremely slow start at Boston College. Took him until around Xmas to find his game but when he did he ended the season on fire. Cooley already is about a point per game. He'll finish very strong and maybe even play his sophmore year in Minny. I have no issues with Cooley staying a Gopher next season. Knies had a nice game last night for the Gophs. It's not too late Kyle to trade him and a '23 first for Chych. You likely won't be around to see him play anyway. Put in all your chips as your days are numbered. No pressure.

Can someone bump the Cooley thread on the main board for me and ask for updates from gophers fans? I’m unable. ;)

I caught the two Mavericks games and him and Snuggerud looked fantastic. But the production has slowed. I’m curious about the eye test.
I wrote something up over on the Prospects board. Pasting below. And yes, Snuggerud has been more impressive and looks like he could have been a top 10 pick with his NHL ready shot.

The bottom line: He is not nearly NHL ready and unlikely to be so by the end of this season. He will greatly benefit from another year in the weight room and as the big man on campus rather than riding the bus in the AHL or being thrown in the deep end when not ready for the show. See: Casey Mittelstadt

He has been far quieter than we expected from a third overall. He is on a stacked line with Knies and Snuggerud and both are having a bigger impact. His stick handling and quickness is NHL ready. He needs to put in a bit more effort, for example making every shot count not just throwing a wrist shot at the goalie's chest, and backchecking and changing quickly every shift.

He does not have a goal since the first game against Lindenwood, and does not have a 5 on 5 point in the last six games, which have been against better opponents.

Long story short, the potential is there and he is a highlight reel waiting to happen every shift. I would not be surprised to see him turn the corner and start to dominate in many games at the end of the year. But players should be dominant weekend after weekend before making the jump. That's why Knies came back after having a much more instant impact last year than Cooley has had thus far.

Youth movement next season?
We felt when we come back next year we are going to have a couple more young players in the lineup. And we wanted to make sure we didn’t have five rookies entering our team next year and if we had a chance to develop one on our own terms in the NHL. And more importantly if he was ready to make that step and we felt Dylan was.

Who are the top contenders?
1. Bedard/Fantilli
2. Cooley
3. Smith/Jenik

Updated...wish we'd start seeing more production out of Soderstrom & Koly

Cooley, apparently seems to be a highlight reel on many shifts but without the production that goes along w/it. Hopefully he'll catch fire here soon as well.

That was the criticism with Cooley last year. The stats don’t always match the eye test.

NOT 5 rookies...hmmm

Probably not Cooley + Fantilli...

Cooley + Jenik + Kolyachonok.

Here are some Cooley highlights...lots of high quality chances, there just not falling at the moment. Sure seems that the production should be much higher given the highlight reels.

Duda is doing rather well in the KHL, no reason to think he wouldn't get offered a contract after this year and come over and either make the team out of camp or spend 1 season in the AHL. Kid is dynamite.

Fun clips. I hope they do that every month!

I see that Carson Bantle has 0 pts in his first 12 games this season - his 3rd season in the NCAA. rt is that why you're not boosting his fan club anymore?

He was 0.52 pts/gm last season.
