Lehky/Nuke are good top 6 players when they have somebody who drives the play on a line with them already.

If the Avs loaded up a Landy - Mack - Mikko top line, then you don't have anybody to drive the offense on that 2nd line anymore. It could work, but it's far from a guarantee. Getting a 2C like Horvat in that scenario would certainly give the wind line a far better chance at working out.

I mean I'd assume if you didn't have anyone to drive the 2nd line than Bednar would make the tweak and break up the top line. If we get someone like Hayes I'm operating under the assumption that one of Nuke/Lehky will be on the 1st line and one will be on the second line. We not only won a cup with Lehky in the top 6 but dominated teams doing it so the recipe clearly exists. It's not a could it happen situation .. it's happened. Injuries are the big thing because once we lose 1-2 guys which will happen than this team doesn't have the depth it did in previous years which is why we need to find the best possible 2C.

Obviously nothing is a guarantee in the playoffs. Montreal literally made the finals a few seasons ago when I think it was you who talked about them not even being a playoff team. Dallas made it the one year. Blues went on a cinderella run. We it see every year with teams like Florida/Toronto and even Colorado to an extent. So yeah Lehky/Nuke in your top 6 doesn't guarantee you a cup win but you know it's possible to win a cup like that and do so in a pretty dominant way.

But that's not what the conversation is about.

The entire conversation is being had around the premise of Colorado loading up the top line with 9296.

That's what I was responding to. With a good 2C we know it can work. We know Nuke/Lehky can be good top 6 players. It'll be all the other things we need to fall into place. I don't think wing/top 6 outside of a 2C needs to be looked at all. We need a 2C/depth. Give me a 3C/good 3rd liner over trying to find another top 6 wing and pushing Lehky down to the 3rd line.
 
I'm actually starting to wonder where Helm fits in when we are fully healthy. Is he taking Meyers out? Or a winger?

He's the 4C I would say.


Lehky - Mack - Mikko
Landy - ???? - Nuke
Newy - JTC - ERod
LOC - Helm - Cogliano
Meyers/Malgin

Malgin would provide more offense but we know that 4th line can be trusted defensively and they're pretty tenacious on the forecheck which I don't think Malgin would bring the same kind of game.

But I would say the chances of us ever getting fully healthy is pretty slim at this point. I wouldn't even be surprised if Helm comes back and plays like half a dozen games or so and ends up getting shutdown for his season/career at this point. Seems like whatever injury he's dealing with has been a nagging one for a long time now and something he's like trying to put off getting surgery for.

Lehky without elite talent = middle 6 player. Lehky with elite talent = a very good top 6 player IMO. He was incredible in the playoffs last year.

It could work depending on the 2C acquired. Henrique… don’t think it will work. Horvat… it would work.
 
IMO even with everyone healthy Lehky is staying on the first line.

They have been under Bowness. Hellebuyc having a bounce back year probably up there for the Vezina. Morrisey going to have the same amount of Norris trophies after this year. Scheifele is having a bounce back. Dubois might be having one of his best years. Perfetti coming along nicely. Connor still scoring alot. Yah good team thats probably going to be 1-2 in the Div with Dallas.

Agreed, but I think their core has some soul searching to do also.

If we can't score 5vs5 once when we get healthy then yeah but the back half is where we separate the men from the boys. We will see if DAL/WIN can sustain, I know the Avs can.

Canucks should sell everything they have and tank Chicago style but ownership won't let them do it.

They'll pick in the 5-8 range again.
