Has any coach been fire this year ? Kinda crazyHow DJ Smith still have a job?
@Pokecheque been calling this for yearsYeah Risto is bad, real bad.
I wonder if Bednar being the coach of the Avs worst team ever and the Cup Champion roster is buying some of these other coaches time?
To me, I think it's the amount of teams around the .500 mark and how very few teams seem truly out of it at this point. It'll start to happen for sure, but probably when a team expected to make the playoffs is on the brink starts to falter or get stuck around .500. I'm sure Berube's seat is getting a little toasty and DJ Smith probably sees the shadow the noose slowly approaching.I wonder if Bednar being the coach of the Avs worst team ever and the Cup Champion roster is buying some of these other coaches time?
Yeah i think it’s the latter. I think there’s a lot of bubble teams who could use an extra prospect to put them over the top and bad teams that could use a guy from this draft to jumpstart their rebuild. Especially someone like Detroit. If they were able to luck their way into a lottery win they’d be set up as well as any team in the league. Many teams that would normally change coaches are under budget restrictions. Add to that, 23 is a known as a draft with a bunch of high end forward and potentially 6/7 franchise level guys. Teams are simply more okay with this year being bad.
The two teams, who most clearly need a coaching change (Anaheim and Ottawa) are clearly budgetary issues. I don't know Columbus' status on that front, but they could be included there too... especially with the attendance drop off there. Your Vancouver, Washington, Arizona are the wait and see sort of group that might be simply okay with getting a pick. The Detroit, Florida, Philly, San Jose, and Montreal group just got new coaches and it is rare to make a change that quickly.Yeah i think it’s the latter. That's when his skating took a downturn , that's what we were talking aboutThat’s not the case at all. That knee on knee hit took place in 2014, his first good season in the NHL. Following that, he failed to post 50 points only twice as an Avs player, once when he hit 49 and the 2016-17 season when the Avs fell into the abyss and came out with newborn baby Cale Makar. Even after that his decline has been pretty gradual and IMO a big part of that is the fact that he’s not seeing the same amount of power play time as he used to.
Dude is just older now. Some wear and tear from injuries is possible but that Cooke hit did not derail his career in the slightest.
They aren't making the playoffs anywaysOhhhhhhh I see what's wrong with the Devils.
Get MacKenzie Blackwood THE FECK off that team, Fitzgerald, what the hell are you doing!?
And yes, I realize Vanecek was the guy who played the first two periods and he sucked, but Blackwood's suckiness is contagious. Get him out of there, why does NJ continue to waste their time with that moron!?
His skating got worse but he got better? Not that they’re necessarily tied to each other but. That's when his skating took a downturn , that's what we were talking about
Not just me! Plenty of people have pointed out he sucks for a long time now.

Yes and @The Kingslayer would agree. Hos skating was never as good after the Cooke incident. Perhaps he chunked up more as well.So you’re saying he was a lot faster his “rookie” season even though he had better seasons after that? That makes no sense.

Seems like a tough sell for what would be their 3rd best dman.Byram for Cozens make it happen
I resent thatIf he was so hobbled up as you and the perpetual reverse-jinxer seem to believe then wouldn't his point totals have gone down? They didn't. He posted 38 that season. He went on to post 53, 49, 38, 57, and 59 before he was traded. 38 is his career low, reached only twice, once in the season where, according to you he was still flying across the ice, and The Season We Don't Talk About. Even as disappointing as he was in Toronto, he still managed 39. Hell, he's already got 26 in 33 games for the Oilers THIS season in a complementary role. The only "evidence" you present is that he "looked" faster in 2013-14? I don't buy that. How is it possible he was a much better skater then, but then proceeded to blow those point totals out of the water?
It's just not true. His skating was perfectly fine, he recovered fully from that cheap shot. He didn't lose a step until much later, right around the time that most all players hit their decline.
The phrase "He was never the same after--" gets overused almost as much as "compete level." It very rarely applies in reality and there are other reasons a player hits a decline. And Barrie did not hit his decline until SIX YEARS after that incident. Your timetable makes no sense.
Who else we adding?Byram for Cozens make it happen
Bozak + 2ndI resent that
