Gave Darnell Nurse more money than Cale Makar makes (!!!!!)
People keep comparing those 2 contracts but they are nothing alike.

Makar's 5 RFA years and 1 UFA year. Nurse is 8 UFA years. Nurse was making 3M during his RFA years and Makar is making 9M.

Nurse's contract is similar to Seth Jones' who's equally as bad.

Whatever, both received franchise defenseman money. One is living up to it, the other is not.

I honestly thought Barrie would have looked so much better on the Oilers than he has
It's funny, I always thought Barrie was a phenomenal skater the way he used to attack the zone and jump into the play like he did, but he's really not, especially (I'm told at least, I don't really observe these things as well) when it comes to lateral movement. All it took was losing a step and his game regressed considerably. I think the one area he used to excel at that's just disappeared is getting his shot through traffic. I can almost tell you the exact Avs game where he finally figured out how to do that, but now he doesn't quite walk the line with the same quickness and as a result, I think his shot is much easier to block now.

He's been looking like a 3rd pairing, PP specialist guy ever since he left the Avs. It wasn't all Babcock's fault after all.

People are so weird about expectations. Barrie at his peak was a offensively slanted #2D who had significant flaws. Now as he is in his early 30s, he's regressed to a middle pairing version of that. It really shouldn't be surprising at all.

That said, people's expectations are wildly out of whack. Combining the last 3 seasons, Barrie 10th amongst D in total points, 27th in goals, 43rd in ES points (tied with Miro), and plays 20 minutes a game. His first season in Edmonton, he lead the league in points from a defensemen. He's a very good middle pairing offensively tilted RD. He's not the 22-23 minute guy he was... but most players at 31 are not who they were at 27. This is very much a reality the Avs will soon face.

I'll admit that adding Barrie to a team that already had Rielly did more to exacerbate the Leafs' issues at the time than add to their strengths. But everyone here knows I'm not at all a fan of Rielly.

There was still ample reason to fire Babcock the previous season though, and Shanahan flat-out admitted he f***ed up in not doing so.

Josh Morrisey with a goal tonight. Hes the guy that some compared Byram too around here and alot of people were underwhelmed. How you feeling about it now? Hes better than Cale Makar now according to Winnipeg.

Timmins was at fault for the goal for Tampa tonight, but he still looks really good right now.
Timmins getting traded the year that the Avs win the cup but winning it the following year with another team would be a pretty awesome story for him.

Other than that I don't like the idea of the Leafs winning the cup. Also HFBoards' servers clearly can't take that.

A little unlucky on that goal too looked like Matthews heal knocked it towards Namaste but beyond that hes looked good in all the games I seen him play with the Leafs. Easy guy to cheer for.

Be better than seeing Edmonton win it to be honest.
