Not looking forward to the Avs facing the Wylde. Between Duhaime, Shaw, Reaves, and whatever other goons they've decided to collect, that's a team looking to hurt other player. Hell, last year they had that one idiot Cranberryosa or whatever.
Shaw got a game misconduct for a knee-on-knee hit. And that isn't even the first time this season he tried to kill someone on San Jose's team.
But I love the fact that the Wylde not only lost bad to the Sharks, Evason went down to 10 forwards and inexplicably refused to play Steel and Boldy.

Karlsson is putting up insane offensive numbers so far, and if he was any good defensively, Sharks may have been contending for playoffs. If he could shut down the opposition along with putting up those numbers, they could actually make the playoffs

Hopefully not EK. I can't agree that a defenseman that focuses almost entirely on scoring is the best.

I dont know. The guy has a crazy 46 points in 35 Games while being only -5 on a terrible San Jose team. I never underestimate the voters when it comes to a "feel good story" like whats happening with him this season. One thing is for certain hes more deserving of Cale Makar unless Cale has a monster second half this trophy is going to EK if he continues on this pace.

The production is absurd and if it continues a top 3 Norris finish is guaranteed. However, this version of EK is more or less a 4th forward gambling on offense all the time with suspect defense. Hard to argue that is the best Dman on the planet.
Generational Cale won't be a finalist unless he scores more, that seem to be the main criteria anyway.

If cale somehow manages to finish second in scoring to him I think Makar will take it. I think the guy who the voters are starting to love right now is Josh Morrissey. Hes getting that buzz that Cale had around this time last year.

Seemed accurate. That being said, EK couldn't put up these kind of numbers with solid defense. The production comes at the expense of a balanced overall game.

Makar has outscored Karlsson's best offensive season in 2015-2016 when he had 82 points in 82 games, while Cale also played elite defense. It can be done. I'm not sure why some people get pissed off when I say Karlsson is not good defensively. It's a fact and all EK fans can just keep drooling over his offensive production and that's fine. Personally I rather have a d-man who can actually play defense even if he puts up less offensive numbers

As long as Cale takes home another Cup or Conn Symthe, so be it. I can live with that all day.
This is who Karlsson is. Everyone knows it, including the Sharks. His play away from the puck is not the difference between San Jose being in the playoffs or not. They’re not making the playoffs because, outside of Karlsson, they’re a really bad team with horrendous goaltending.
And Burns always has been and always will be a far, far worse defender than Karlsson.

Josi basically playing as a fourth forward last year and being that close in Norris voting paved the way for EK to go back to his old ways and be in the lead for the Norris this year. It’s a joke, but the Norris has kind of been like this since the 05 lockout. At least guys like Lidstrom and Headman played actual defense while putting up numbers.
They should make more trophies. The best defensive defenseman, the best offensive defenseman and then the Norris.
Norris being for the defense and offense. The biggest award.
Eh, I’m fine with guys like Karlsson and Josi being in the Norris conversation. There’s nothing wrong with that.

The trophy is defined as defenseman who shows the “best all around ability” in a season. Nothing about EK’s game screams all around to me. I don’t want to knock his talent, cause he’s been a very unique, offensive dynamo, but he doesn’t play well enough on the defensive side. Josi doesn’t either when he goes full tilt like last year.
It’s a bit unfair for EK since he’s on such a horrid roster this year, I’ll give him that.
By that token then Rod Langway never should have won either. One could argue that Karlsson made things much easier for his team defensively simply because he is able to drive possession and keeps the puck in the attacking zone for sustained periods.
Hate to break it to people but Makar’s defensive numbers are not great. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a phenomenal talent and franchise defenseman.
The definition of what makes a great defenseman has changed and shifted a lot over the decades. And Josi and Karlsson are two of the most fun players to watch in the league. I have never, ever understood the hate EK gets for playing a hugely dynamic game.
He’s an entitled little shit and it was evident even in juniors. One of many reasons why he’s nothing more than a mediocre player despite possessing top-level talent.
