Meh, I don't blame any of those three guys for taking the jobs.

For one, NHL coaching jobs are extremely limited. Two, imagine they actually do turn things around? Those guys will be heralded as heroes and it will open up more opportunities for Foote/Gonchar.

The Canucks organization is a mess and run by an incompetent fool, but I don't blame these three guys for taking jobs.

There is no chance of a turnaround. Tocchet will be like a prison warden.

They took every chance they could to ask Bruce the same questions in every post game presser. Obviously Canucks management is to blame for the situation but trying to get the guy to crack every interview is shoddy reporting.

Edit: I see I missed finishing my sentence that you are quoting and probably questioning; media is one of the reasons for the shitshow is what I meant to say.
The media has done nothing wrong. They didn’t overdramatize or sensationalize anything, the drama, the mishandling, the general f***ery is being entirely generated by Rutherford and the Canucks.

If the Canucks didn’t want the media to talk to him, they very easily could have chosen to make him unavailable. Boudreau also could have opted out of the pressers and NO ONE would have blamed him. All the credit in the world to Bruce who stood up there and answered every question honestly, and he’s coming out of this looking great while the Canucks could not possibly look worse.

Agree to disagree I guess when it comes to the media. I do agree wholeheartedly that Boudreau has done nothing wrong and deserves all the accolades for how he’s handled it but to me I still don’t like how they push for soundbytes. He is a human and of course he cares and gets emotional. They are well aware that he is well aware, yet keep asking him to comment on it, likely looking for him to call out the managemen (or get an emotional byte to play) yet he wouldn’t take the bait.

Crazier things have happened. Obviously not this season but if somehow the Canucks make the playoffs next season these coaches will be lauded for their work.
Vancouver is a unique case in the way that they have the foundation of a good roster in place: an elite center, a #1D, and a good young starting goalie. Now EP can walk in 2 years, but we are not there yet. They have a lot of stuff to figure out, they need to loose some weight on that roster. But it's not as bad roster wise than say Philly.

That's literally their job.

Did you know that Matthew Tkachuk has more points than Rantanen this season with the same number of games played? All that while racking up 72 PIM. He can fight, he's a pest AND produce more than Rants who's on a career year. That's f***ing ridiculous. He also had a better season offensively last year than Mack and Rants ever had (104 pts).

He's as elite as it gets and has joined Brad Marchand in my book at the very top of the most underrated players in the league.

8 years at 9.5M was a f***ing bargain for the Panthers.

PS: If Rants wants 12M-13M for his next contract I hope MacFarland points him the Tkachuk contract that was signed after the 104 pt season and at age 25.

First of all, let's be clear that Mack is the superior player looking at P/GP. And Rantanen, while debatably not as good as Tkachuk, will demand top dollar based on his past contract negotiation.

Lol. That season was the first time Tkachuk went over a PPG in his f***ing career. Rantanen has done that 5/7 seasons, with one of those being his first full year (the infamous 48 point season), and the covid suspended year where his season was riddled with injuries and he had 41 points in 42 games.

Tkachuk is a great player and good for him, Rantanen doesn't have to look at his contract for a second for a comparison. He has grounds to ask for a much bigger deal, and rightfully so. 11m is the starting point.

Call me in the playoffs when he inevitably disappears AGAIN. If he even gets there.

Not as good as Tkachuk?

He’s produced more than Rantanen by what? One point. While Rantanen has lugged along half the Eagles roster for most of the season.

Tkachuk is a great player. Good contract. No doubt. But for a guy that you would expect to be a playoff performer he consistently underwhelms. Unlike Mikko.

Rantanen and his agent will just point at the lack of state income tax in Florida and what will likely be a higher salary cap.

Starting the new contract at 25 vs 29 yo though. That counts for more than income tax for a 8 year contract.

Or at least, it should. Florida is getting a lot of prime years...while the Avs won't get many.

Proving right now that it wasn't a fluke.

Maybe it wasn't, but he wasn't given that contract based on that season only. If he would be a free agent in the summer, he would make 11 plus, not 9,5.
That's possible.

Anyway, regardless of the Rants thing...the original point I wanted to make was that Tkachuk, just like Marchand, is underrated as hell because we (most hockey fans) don't like him.

These guys have superstar numbers.

The age is a good point but then there's also a guy like Huberdeau, whose contract kicks in at 30 for $10.5M/yr.

I think whatever Pasta signs for will probably set the minimum for what Rantanen will ask for. That's going to be a big number.

If he keeps up this pace, he won't be underrated for long. But the fact is, he wasn't putting up #1 winger numbers before last season.

I do like him a lot. But I would also not swap Rantanen for him. Not even with his current play. Rantanen isn't exactly a soft player, although he doesn't have that pest element. And he just put ups numbers, both during the RS and the playoffs. And is a vocal leader of the team. Frankly, I don't think there's a winger I would trade him for, even if I concede to the fact that guys like Kuch and Kaprizov are probably better players. The difference is not that huge.

I'd rather have Rants than Tkachuk as well but if we're taking age and contract situation I'd rather have Tkachuk.

Rants is 26 and has 2 more years at 9.6M (and then ??M X 8). You're likely looking at a 2-digit AAV for a guy deeeeeep in his 30's.

Tkachuk is 25 and has 7 more years at 9.5M. He'll be 32 at the end of his contract. Perfect.
