Aljo is not and will not be better than edvinsson. Saying that doesn't make you edgy. Aljo looks as good as he does BECAUSE of edvinsson. Just like Ian white looked good next to lids
Instead of replying to everyone, I’ll just hit reply to you but it’s for everyone I suppose.
Not being edgy and I don’t like edging. Just want to make sure that is perfectly clear.
Horcoff had aljo above Edvinsson and he was first call up until he got injured with the leg. That’s a fact and I’ve proven it way too many times, go look for the article it’s there with a direct quote from horcoff.
Yzerman routinely goes out of his way to praise aljo development in press conferences and summer press briefings, especially when people kept bring up Edvinsson (pre this season of course).
Never said burgers was close or would ever be close to Raymond. Yes there are tiers to this and if you,
@norrisnick, truly believe the analogy of Ed:aljo - ray:burger, then you should check out your mentals because berggren is multiple tiers below whereas I can see an argument that aljo is one or half tier below ed. Great analogy though
Also, comparing the ed-aljo to liddy-white for how good one makes the other look is obscene. This makes it sound like you equate aljo to white. And white never played that great regardless. So that’s a head scratching analogy in itself.
Watch the tapes in an unbiased lens. Aljo is routinely in the right position, Ed gets caught more often (see the first 3-4 minutes of either this game or the game before where he gets smashed by reaching on the near boards in d zone. Just one example off the dome there are plenty others). Aljo routinely wins corner puck battles against same size or larger opponents. Ed does better in blocked shots but whenever he does it, he hurts himself so idk
. Ed has higher point production ability, 100%, but point producing is not the end all be all. Ed doesn’t use his size as much as he should (unless he is with Seider strangely enough) when it comes to clearing out the front or riding people into the boards. Ed probably has better hands and can go coast to coast probably better (haven’t really seen aljo try this or even attempt to do so…if someone has a clip please send, I’m interested to see that) but I’d give aljo more praise on dzone breakout passing.
Regardless, when you all have your opinion on something you don’t bend. That’s the internet baby. Doesn’t bother me so this is all a fools errand. At the end of the day, I don’t want to trade either player as our top 4 with them and Seider and asp should rival all teams in the league (if not routinely the best) within a few years as long as asp keeps developing as he is.
P.s. aljo gets more praise from mclellan and ed himself than all other dman not named Seider.
