This is the problem you run into when you keep Slafkovsky in the NHL which is what you want so bad. You want St. Louis to focus on developing by doing what you think is best for Slafkovsky. But an NHL coach doesn’t care. His concern is winning games.
Don't mix up with the previous seasons because the situation is largely different. Habs were in a position to do a run in the playoffs each seasons but Price's injuries cost us few series.

Last year Habs finished last, have a new staff and Molson has accepted that we re-build. MSL will do the job about developing prior to wining , but will try to get both of course.

In KK's first 7 games:

14:16 TOI/G
11:35 5v5 TOI/G

In Slafkovsky's first 7 games:

11:25 TOI/G
11:03 5v5 TOI/G

If we're going to be incredibly nitpicky here through 7 games (we shouldn't), the difference in icetime is almost entirely that KK played on the PP to start the season and Slafkovsky hasn't. And Slafkovsky not playing on the PP to start the season was a conscious choice by the coaching staff with a view on his development
WiFi has never played as much games as he is in the NHL. Just remember how flat he was during the pre-season, when he was playing 2 games in 2 nights.

Martin Saint-Louis doesn't want to push his limits too far. By the way, didn't KK hit a wall at his first season , probably in March or February ?

Will he stay with the big club or sent back? I would send him to laval seriously there is not point in keeping him there is too much things to work on still But well see...

Yes it does only apply to CHL players if i’m not mistaken, he still burns a year off his ELC if he is in Laval.

From what I know, the ELC does not slide if he plays 10 NHL games. RFA year kicks in if he plays 40 games. Kind of where my mind was at when I posted the 7 games and 2 more to go. Now one more to go.

He's much better off developing up here than down in Laval with Houle.

He's continued to improve every game, another reason to keep him where he is.

If Beck, Ferrell, Mesar, Heineman, Mailloux, were a bit older and in the AHL also developing, I'd like to see what Slaf can do with them with more min/game. Talent needs to play with talent. However, that is not the case and it's likely why Barron and Mysak are meh.

Laval's problem is center depth IMO. I looked at that this summer after we drafted Slaf and was wondering who he would be working with if he played in Laval.

So yeah, he's better off with MSL and being around the youth/vets the Habs have at the moment.

Houle would put him on the 4th line and tell him he's only gonna be the next Sean Thornton.

Hughes and Gorton bringing in their own developmental coach can't come soon enough.

After 9 games, Slafkovsky show why he is a 1st overall pick, already 3 goals in 9 games... with limited ice time... he play very good at defensive zone and make very good passes too. He have a great shot too.

Send him down to help the tank

Play him with offensive players and he’ll pick up points. That was a goal scorers goal
The issue is that the Habs only have three good players and they are already on the first line…

At this stage Drouin Monahan is not much better than Armia Evans to be honest.

2 observations:

1- MSL should concentrate secondary offence. I would try Slaf with Monahan. Third guy could be Armia or Anderson.

2- Be aware of who you are playing with… When playing with guys that don’t score, it’s pointless to make cute passes. If Slaf wants his line to score, he should use his body and take the puck to the net himself.

MSL needs to iron out a few issues on offence. Don’t send Dach and Drouin as the 2 forwards if we need a goal. Monahan really needs new linemates. His offence is being squandered. And finally get a 2nd line going offensively!

Third guy could be Evan's or Dvorak, both of whom are better offensively than all of our other winger options.
