The team is currently in an incredible place with our long term outlook- the larger than expected cap increases certainly feels like an opportunity to add one additional high end player, but we really need the right fit.

Miller is a good player but i would prefer that last piece to be younger.

Petterson is a solid defender and O’Connor was an intriguing fit with us but we don’t think that deal makes sense for us as I would rather use a future first for 1 great piece instead of 2 solid ones.

I’ll reserve my consternation for a piece going off the board that I would be interested in.

The deadline is in a month. You don’t make moves just to make them. He won’t stand pat the whole way.
While philosophically I agree (and keep in mind the Rangers being a few points back increases their urgency factor compared to us - still several points up on a spot), it does seem like a lot of teams want to get business done before the NHL break this season.

There's a main board thread asking who the worst player is in NHL history.

And the OP has a tweet from Frank the tank just the other night saying Justin Dowling is the worst player in NHL history.

He isn't even nearly the worst player on the team, let alone NHL history. We've definitely had way worse regulars than him.

Everybody would like to see him add something to help the team. But it shouldn't be as a panic or response to other teams making trades, some of which you were never in on to begin with.
I don't think I said I wanted JT Miller just that other teams are preparing themselves for the playoffs not some last minute acquisition with no time to meld with teammates like Fitz is going to pull off when all you aquiesants turn on him🤣

yes, absolutely and if he doesn't by the time the trade deadline passes, then sure we can be annoyed. Until then? I'd rather keep banking cap space.
👍🏻

I think trading for a player who is going to play in the Four Nations tournament before the tournament makes sense, this way they can try to get their life slightly settled in their new city before leaving. I am surprised Pettersson isn't one of them but if there is an injury between now and then I think he would be. That said Vancouver and the Rangers are on the playoff bubble.

I think the Devils are very unlikely to make a deal for a player like this, so it's moot.

Eliminating the Worthless Faceoff - Idea 2:

Instead of a faceoff, each team picks one player to fight. The guy that "draws" the most blood from his opponent wins the "faceoff" and their respective team receives puck possession.

Pro: Big Mac's status with the team is upgraded to Franchise Player.
Con: It's a stupid idea.

I don't know why people are comparing teams that have been consistent playoff contenders trying to get over the hump vs a team that is on pace to make the playoffs for the 3rd time since 2017-2018. Devils have already traded their 2025 1st round pick, there's no reason for them to make desperate moves and trade the farm away when they still have a young core of talent they are building around.

Just look for under the radar talent that they can acquire for a reasonable price, no need to make a splash move for the sake of it.

Why are you people always reminding me that this hyperventilating chucklef*** exists?
