I blame Springer as much or more. As the guy making the big bucks on this team he likely has a level of autonomy and forcefulness in his decisions. If he says he can still play and the trainers can't say "he can't play or he'll easily make things worse by playing" then he's going to get deferred to. It should be on him to recognize that he's hurting the team more than helping it and stay on the bench. There's no reason to think he couldn't be useful as a a pinch-hitter while they try to rest him in preparation of the playoffs or a play-in game.
 
Great job by Matz…again. He’s done really well under the pressure of the pennant drive along with the top 3 pitchers on the team. Ryu is their 5th starter now, and not a very good one.

It’s amazing to me that Montoyo will pinch hit Kirk when we’re ahead, but not when we’re behind.
 
yeah one of the 3 has to be dealt this offseason. atleast on the plus side kirk has positioned himself as the bat first catcher and jansen as the defensive so chances are that will make reese the odd one out the door

That leaves the bench with zero catchers.

Earlier in the season it was theorized that Charlie wasn't pinch hitting Kirk because fear of injury and no other catcher to turn to.

Good position to be in thats for sure. 3 mlb catchers. 1 defense 1st. 1 bat 1st. Them reese not really sure lol but he is a lefty

Yankees and Red Sox both gonna be facing crappy pitchers tomorrow (and they have Cole and Eovaldi starting), so it’s looking like we’ll have to win to keep pace.
