AV will get this season for a number of reasons, last year was a Clusterf---k, that happens in sports and life, the season before he got a team that had underachieved the previous season to play at a 106 point pace and make it to the 7th game of the second round of the playoffs, the best performance by a Flyer team for a decade. So yeah, he earned his mulligan. But it's put up or file for a change of address.
I'm taking a wait and see attitude toward this offseason.
Fletcher doesn't have to win trades, he has enough surplus talent that he can lose trades if he improves the talent at the top of the roster.
I'm not concerned with losing Voracek, JVR or Ghost, Voracek has been a meh playoff performer and the other two are subpar in the post-season - and in the NHL, you build a team for May, not October.
I am concerned with overpaying for second tier talent, especially with the flat cap.
I don't want Eichel b/c we are neither desperate or "rich enough" (TB with Stamkos and his injuries) to gamble on him and his neck.
I do want a 1B goalie, physical RHD and a fast, forechecking forward. We need a third line that can fly and a fourth line that can pressure top opposing lines.
I don't want to lose the top young players, Farabee, TK, Allison, Frost, Foerster, Wisdom, Lindblom, Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, York, Zamula.
You can build around that core, and the only reason you trade one is in a package for a better cost controlled young player 25 or under.
Cost-control is key, because the cap will be flat the next few years.
Guys like Laczynski, NAK, Patrick, Bunnaman, Hogberg, Hagg are expendable, given the organizational depth.
So are draft picks, though I want a big return for #13.
