I still wonder if they try to circle back to Klingberg... We were supposedly very interested in him and then the rumors died down after the deadline. I would like to see that option revisited.

Yeah and how does that help us defensively?

I shudder to think what this roster would look like with a top pair OFFENSIVE defenseman -- with creativity, playmaking, and PP1 capabilities. How ever would our shutdown, defensive top pair LD survive? At least one of you guys is thinking about the "big picture problems."

Anthony SanFilippo brings up Eichel every time he can on that podcast with Russ joy or whatever.

I wonder if he has any inside information because of his previous connections with the team. Although his “hypothetical” proposals made me sick.

orrr it’s just me hoping Fletcher targets the best available player. If Holmgren is still giving his insight I’m sure he would say target Eichel. He was never one to back away from making bold moves.

Athletic reporter for the rangers asked if the rangers proposed:

Strome
Kravstov
Zac Jones
15th overall

Would they make the trade? Is that f***ing serious.

Overall I honestly anticipate a package similar to that with a little higher upside but that’s about in the range a team will move for Eichel IMO

“I do think Philly’s going to do something on the blue line,” Friedman said. “With Jones I think Philly wants to know there’s a commitment from him… They want this to be a meaningful long-term relationship. I think that’s part of the issue, but I’ve heard Philadelphia is working it pretty hard.”

Quote from Friedman. Sounds like Jones really is determined to test free agency or just has a spot specifically he wants to go. Either way it really could be a blessing for the flyers.

It’s possible. I’d argue Provorov’s biggest need is just someone better offensively, with competency elsewhere, specifically as a playmaker. Jones’ playmaking is not what I’d specifically label a strength. He’s not without ability, but in recent years, he’s been increasingly settling for low danger shots. Ironically, Provorov needs a Werenski-type.

But if management’s viewpoint is Provorov needs Jones — and vice versa — and makes a soon to be $16 mil pairing, they’ve left reality far far behind. I can’t get over this point in finding a “top pair RD.” That’s not how any of this works with a salary cap!
I agree, but I’m trying to put myself in managements shoes. Provorov doesn’t have a ‘leash’ like most do. The system WILL change with that pair on the ice. The puck will run through them in the Ozone… I can almost guarantee that. Funny thing is that neither are playmakers with the puck. I’d be more pressed to give Jones the puck in the Ozone than Provorov due to Jones offensive IQ and natural ability to follow a play better than Provorov, but if you run it through them then it may be inept.
I don’t know if Jones is in dire need of a Werenski type player, but Werenski only accentuates one part of his skill set and it doesn’t really work the other way around, you know? Jones is almost better when he’s the aggressive offensive zone type that gets the puck near offensive zone blue line and can take it in. That’s his bread and butter. Decent shot plus an open teammate is a high level of success for him, but you take that away and you may have a Maxine Lajoie type that stays along the boards. Without someone to cover for him (Werenski can cover due to speed and good skating) each entry could be a high risk play without a high reward. That’s easily exploitable and he’s kind of a one trick pony that way… at times.

Id honestly rather trade for him with only a one year commitment. The cost would be less, and you could at least see if he even fits in well here. Blindly handing him a big contract and Columbus using that as an excuse to upcharge us is the issue.

Still blows my mind that GM’s in the NHL pay a premium for a player they acquire and then sign to an extension. There literally is no reason to pay extra to that team for that opportunity.

Im still hesitant on Eichel. The injury is a real concern. Itd be the most philly thing ever to go all in on this guy and have it end in disaster because hes never on the ice.

There seems to be a lot of intriguing forwards available that would cost less and be impact additions. Tarasenko, Gudreau, Tkachuk, etc. I think thats the better way to go especially if you can pull off a hockey trade with TK or Jake.

In this case at least Fletcher can’t offer anything albatross like Hayes to try and change his mind. The guy certainly is allowed to test UFA. Move on and get Hamilton or a Nashville Dman.

That’s because Colorado knows he is willing to stay there. Chicago, like us, are not a contender. We could be. But we know the Avalanche are.

That’s where the Jones thing falls apart for me even more than his actual quality. If he leaves, we’re back here next season. That’s always why it was more important to go for Hamilton. That one is ONLY commitment.

If there is no commitment from Jones this team would be stupid times 999999999999999999 to go after him.
