Uh....that poster, nor anyone else is saying it was rigged in the sense that Mike let Jake win.

It was rigged in the sense that it was a bullshit fight with a predetermined outcome they tried to hype up and dress up in lipstick, and Paul also stopped trying and didn't knock him out or get the fight stopped when he would have if it was an actual legit match. Nothing gained from it other than money.

And us schumcks watching and continue to talk about it....
I am sure BOTH fighter went in hoping to win but, after a few rounds, Mike knew he couldn't last and once Paul saw Mike was fading (fast), he :

1) Didn't want to hurt him - he doesn't want to be known as the guy who killed an old man in the ring;
2) Wanted the fans to get their money's worth so he let it go 8 rounds.

It was a silly challenge and people got what they paid for - something silly.

The bolded is really the only legitmate gripe, and he did his time for it. Understand someone not being able to look past it still but he seems to have changed as a person as time went on and afaik was never accused again and doesn't seem like he ever will be. Other beloved sports figures have raped people such as Kobe Bryant.

He has one DUI arrest afaik/can see after a quick google search, didn't even involve alcohol, it was combo of cocaine/weed/meds he was taking. Irresponsible, but isolated incident. So he's not some serial drunk driver.

Cocaine, whatever, who cares what he puts into his own body as long as he aint slingin it or corrupting other people around him with it.

He's a legend in the sport.

He can be a legend in the sport and a pathetic human being at the same time.

This fight was so hyped up. I'm not even a boxing fan, and I heard about this fight multiple times at work today. People had it playing on their phones at the bar I was at.

My buddy told me the money was already split pre-fight. Is that true? If so- it already tells you they may want to compete, but not murder eachother for the extra loot.

Y'all are right, though. As a boxing novice, the old heads had me convinced Tyson was going to destroy Paul, but I was soon reminded what an athlete close to 60 looks like. I'm glad it didn't end up like Ali when he got pummeled well past his prime.

The whole hype was ridiculous even ignoring entirely the obnoxious celebrity fight aspect. Like expecting Gretzky to keep up with ECHLers today, just not going to happen regardless of what once was.

The biggest weapon in boxing and in most sports is stamina and unfortunately as you age no matter how strong you might be, how fast you still might still be, and how good of shape you try to get yourself into, you need the stamina to be able to use that strength and speed. I hoped Tyson might be able to maintain a reasonable pace for the first 3 rounds at least but his legs were gone about halfway through the 2nd round and that was pretty much it for him. That was really the question mark for me, how much stamina can a 58 year old man really have and the answer was not enough to put on any kind of quality boxing match.
