People seem to think every trade suggested is a bad move unless it’s a lopsided trade that isn’t realistically going to happen.

People are balking at the idea of trading Morgan Frost for Seth Jones, for crying out loud.

It’s absurd how many people here are overrating & strongly attached to the Flyers’ young players.
I am balking at trading 4 young players for 1 year of anyone.

This team isn't Victor Hedman from making a run next year. Let alone Seth Jones.

Maybe. Just maybe. Jones isn’t the right fit?

They aren’t going to trade for Jones without knowing he’ll sign. Everyone acting as if these Jones trades would be for a rental are just doing so for something extra to bitch about.

Looks to me like they are trying to create packages similar to what San Jose paid for Karlsson, based on that line about Balcers at the end of Pronman's quote.

That package is a hideous overpayment.

Portzline called that package "underwhelming." Given Patrick, the Flyers can't trade Frost, unless it involves Eichel. That's pretty much a line in the sand. For me anyway -- Chuckles, who knows? Meanwhile, you have a Philly beat talking about trading Farabee/TK + Sanheim + 2021 1st. Perspective!

I do find it interesting Portzline is much more receptive to Chicago's Kurashev, Beaudin, Reichel, 2022 1st......and Colorado's Jost, Ranta, Barron, 2021 1st.

Everyone has their own opinions, but the only Frost-caliber prospect I see is Reichel. Barron stinks. That Colorado package has a very low 1st, an NHL JAG riding years old hype in Jost, Ranta is a minor piece. Beaudin is a good puck mover but not a good skater, and his stats were poor this year in the NHL. Kurashev seems pretty whatever. I'm seeing very little that's enticing minus Reichel. I'm not a homer, but the Flyers package looks the best pretty much player by player. I would assume any 1st would be 2021 and not 2022 though, which is important. Portzline looks like he doesn't have a clue though.

I’m all for action but I prefer Hamilton over all defenseman that are supposedly available. And he’s free of asset cost. No issues paying him 8 million+ for him either.

I would get Hamilton and another defenseman (flyers seem hell bent on trading ghost) to pair with Provorov. Like others have mentioned you don’t play your two horses together unless it’s late in game scenarios. You need two strong pairings.

Sanheim-Hamilton
Provorov -XXXXX

Hamilton & Manson have been my dream since before the season ended.

Every press post has been Jones won't resign now.

But for bleeps and giggles say Jones 8*8.25 extends.
How is this team going to make the cap paying
JVR
JV
G now and 22
Couts in 22
TK
Provorov
Jones
Sanheim on new deal
Hayes

And field a competitive depth roster when you have traded 4 of your best chips to field a roster?

WE are in such denial that if team add a rhd we will get 110 points and sprinkle pixie dust and be good.

Then I hope you aren’t among those pushing for Hamilton, because it’s the same issue.

Me, I’ve already been clear that I’m willing to trade JVR to clear up cap space, am willing to trade Konecny & Sanheim in deals, as well.

I figure Frost actually has more value, would prefer to offer up Patrick and the lore of that 2nd OA instead if a deal makes sense.

I think those packages are fantasy land stuff.

We're talking a one year rental, the extension doesn't matter b/c you'll pay the free agent price even if he agrees to sign, so you shouldn't pay assets for that privilege - assets go for cost controlled players with surplus value, especially low cost assets.

Now if you were talking Pronger, or another top 5 type D-man, but Jones isn't even top 10 caliber, he's a marginal improvement over Provorov, and different but not much better than Sanheim with less upside (upside reflects both age but also experience, after 8 years it's doubtful Jones will find a third gear, while Sanheim has the potential to be a top offensive D-man if he learns to finish - Carlson didn't until he was 28).

So I take all these rumors with a bag of salt, if Fletcher decides he wants to change out Sanheim for Jones, ($5M or so extension for Sanheim v $8M for Jones? Maybe one other asset (but no more) and it won't be a disaster. Jones and Myers on the right side, Provorov, Ghost, York and Zamula on the left). Myers for Jones makes no sense, Myers has more upside, and it still leaves you a RHD short.

Farabee? I wouldn't trade Farabee for Jones even up, Farabee has just scratched the surface of his potential, has one year left on his ELC and then a RFA deal - so at least 4 years "below market", which pays for G's extension. That has huge value in a flat cap world.

I don’t trust our group of clowns to run anything properly.

If we were a Seth Jones away from a cup, sure. But we aren’t.
Maybe you get the rare 26-year old, RH, heavy-minute, all-situations, first-pairing defenseman when he’s available, & then worry about filling in the less difficult parts?

Its exactly the same problem and why Francis is going to try to bend us over to take JVR or JV off the roster. And I am scared Fletch is going to ask for extra baby oil.

At least with Hamilton signing you keep 4 prospects to try to move the expensive players off your roster.
