Seth Jones has spent 8 years in the league and is still living off his draft pedigree. He’s an average defenseman that’s been handed 1D ice time and racked up some counting stats because of it. I wouldn’t want to sign him if he were a UFA because his contract will be bloated. Forget about trading multiple top picks and prospects and paying the salary.

That’s an eye opener, BUT, how many of those 60 played a key role before being bought in helping team get to SCF or CF? In other words, what was the value in the early part of their contracts?

imo the main takeway/conclusion from it is that "the middle class" of hockey will disappear. The increase in salary isn't linearly tied to the amount of talent (plus "intangibles").

I disagree complitely. Always liked him but what really made me a fan of him were the playoff series' against Tampa. Doughty/Duncanesque performance though in a strongly inferior team hence the lack of success.

Anyone else feel like Mason Marchment is gonna get taken by Seattle? I like his game in a bottom six role.
It's more than likely between Driedger, Vatrano and Gudas, you can find a Marchment type from free agency.

It's tough to say because we have no idea who Seattle is planning to pick from other teams. From the outside looking in Driedger makes the most sense, but maybe they can get a goalie from some other team? Maybe they value Vatrano's goal scoring potential? Or Gudas physical presence and veteran leadership?

We're set to lose one of MM, Vatrano, Gudas or maybe Accari.

That's two bottom six players, a bottom pairing Dman and a fringe fourth liner.

OR we can lose a UFA (Dreidger).

We are coming out so far ahead compared to other teams. We just need to sit back and let Seattle take who they want. Zito shouldn't even bother calling Francis.

Who ever we lose can be replaced at the same cost, or cheaper.

So I just saw all the signings and the buyout. I’m freakin ecstatic.

Question: Does Stralman have to be protected since he has a modified NTC?

Wait so if we're talking 7 forwards 3 defensemen and 1 goalie format....

Forwards

1. Barkov
2. Huberdeau
3. Verhaeghe
4. Duclair
5. Bennett
6. Hornqvist
7. Vatrano

Defensemen

1. Ekblad
2. Weegar
3. Forsling

Goalie

1. Bobrovsky

Is there something I'm missing here? Who else would we protect up front that we wouldn't want Seattle to take? Marchment and Gudas seem like the only logical choices for them.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken but Tippett will need to be protected since he is now a 2 year pro (1 AHL+ 1 NHL).
