If Zito knew that Yandle would not waive for the expansion draft he may not want the same bad press he faced at the start of last season.

However, IMO, if Yandle is on the team this October he doesn't start the 1st game of the season and no more streak. Play him 5 minutes a night, or more if there are a lot of power plays, and be sure to let the press know exactly why this is being done.

F'em.

I had always considered they might trade him later in the off-season. But the problem is by not waiving, unless Francis has told Zito they want Judge, if hes not bought out by the draft Florida has to expose Forsling.

My prediction:

Seattle is going to end up with 3 players from Florida.

They'll sign Driedger and count him as a pick.

We'll trade Yandle along with a forward (Vatrano maybe) to Seattle.

Then maybe we go after someone like Tarasenko or whomever.

Not sure if this was posted here since I'm not around much this summer:

NHL Trade Big Board: Eichel, Jones, Tarasenko and ... Stamkos? 25 players who could be dealt

Judge is number two on the NHL trade board for goalies on whether he gets moved before free agency. The likelihood of his rights being dealt are high. LeBrun says most likely a 4th in return would be the price for him.
If Seattle wants to take Driedger, we should be very happy about it. 4th round pick is a bag of magic beans that might work out 5 years from now and in return we'd lose an actual roster player to Seattle, probably Forsling or Vatrano.

Even if Seattle hasn't outright said they're taking Driedger, we should still see it through.

If he leaves Colorado, he's signing a contract that his new team is going to regret. Pass.

Landeskog is a no no for me. As others have said, just way too expensive, even if he is an amazing player.

Tarasenko I am really intrigued by. The cost to acquire will be low as the entire league knows he doesn't want to play in St. Louis anymore. Bob is here, Denisenko is here, I think Barky speaks Russian too. We all know how much the Ruskies love their South Florida sun.

He also seems to fit the mold of this team. The whole "island of misfit toys" vibe they had going last year really plays with Tarasenko too. People are quick to write him off but he was the best goal scorer in the league a few years ago.

His health is obviously a concern, but with only 2 years left on his deal and his contract expires when Huberdeau needs a new one might be perfect timing. We all clamored for a sniper on the off-wing last season with Hoffman gone, well Tarasenko is that.

If he's healthy and ready to play, he scores 30 goals on Barkov's wing in his sleep.

I forgot to mention, Judge is reported to be looking at a contract around $3.5 mil/per

If Seattle selected Judge, I would jump for joy! And I haven't jumped in 7 years

I'd be stunned if Zito pulled a Tallon and gave up talent for yet another cap dump.

Mashing F5 on Capfriendly waiting for the updated roster.

There's going to be a lot of work to do on D come next offseason.

Swaggy - Barkov - Tank
Huberdeau - Bennett - Tippett

is a pretty stellar top 6.

Huberdeau - Barkov - Tank - Ekblad - Bennett/Hornqvist on the 1st PP unit.

So unless we're using Duclair or an exempt guy as a chip for Seattle to take Stralman, then our expansion draft situation is....

Bob
Ekblad, Weegar, Forsling
Barkov, Huberdeau, Bennett, Verhaeghe, Hornqvist, Duclair, Vatrano/Acciari
Exempt: Lundell, Tippett, Denisenko, Heponiemi, Knight

Hope that Vatrano is the one on his way out. Very replaceable with the wingers we have coming up, and Acciari will be useful with Lundell and Luostarinen centering the bottom 6.
