Not trying to out anyone here, but nothing irks me more when fans give opinions on changing the voice of the room, or suggest to turn a new leaf on a captain. Especially when in Benn’s situation, every player/personnel that has been and or currently are apart of the Stars rave about Benn’s leadership and how guys want to play for him.

Again not outing anyone since it happens often, and not just with the Stars. But at the end of the day, fans have very limited knowledge of what goes on in the room and what may be best for the team moving forward in terms of leadership.

Benn should and by the sounds of it, will remain a Star for however long he wants to play, and has always put the team first.

I’d be willing to wager one of the biggest reasons why Duchene came back to play for this organization at a massive discount is because of the locker room culture. Listen to any Duchene interview and he will talk about competing for the guys like Jamie and Tyler.

Its okay if you dont understand this. Not bringing back your captain of 12+ years signals a culture shift whether you’re willing to recognize that or not.
Well said

To make the cap work next year it's either Marchment +Dumba out the door (fingers crossed)
Or Robo.
I would guess if we win the cup it's Robo, if we don't, they try and keep as much of the band together as they can, and get rid of of the passengers

Ya I’ve learnt to appreciate Mush but he definitely should be moved out, along with Dumba in the offseason. Like you said, get rid of the passengers.

Moving Mush shouldn’t be hard

I don't know how the money works, but ...

Robertson-Hintz-Bourque
Benn-Johnston-Rantanen
Blumel-Duchene-Seguin
Back-Steel-Hyry
$775 Forward

Harley-Heiskanen
Lindell-Lyubushkin
Bichsel-Lundqvist
$775K Defender

Oettinger
DeSmith

It's fun having Rantanen on a stacked line with Robertson and Hintz, but I think the team would be better off having two #1 lines: Robertson-Hintz and Rantanen-Johnston.

Oof that left side of the forwards is paper thin. Benn isn’t playing like a 2nd liner this season and who knows how much he will decline next season. It is what it is though.

Seguin is a big question mark moving forward, if what we've heard about him being unable to skate without pain is true. I think there's a non-zero chance this upcoming playoff run could be the last meaningful hockey he plays.

No offense but your opinion is vibes driven, not mine.

I wouldn’t have this opinion if there weren’t dozens of interviews over the years that support it. It gets emphasized all the time.

This kind of culture is sought after in the hockey world. Buffalo, Montreal, and a lot of the perennial bottom dwellers of the past decade+ would kill for it. You can’t just piece together a few “leaders” and the light immediately turns on- see the current failure in Chicago.
Eh, I dont think we know enough to have more than vibes based opinions.

Edit: deleted the rest of the post. I feel like I we're talking past each other so really no point.

Yeah he can be sometimes idiot on ice but we underestimate how important to keep everything together.

I still take Robo as untouchable. Considering that when his contract ends cap should be up to 115 mil we should be able to pay so I dont see much of a reason moving him if there isnt like crazy offer.

I don’t think Robertson will be moved just to move. It will be the extras that we heard about in negotiations last time. It may not be just having the cap space other things could keep him from staying. It is funny now that the right side seems to have all the strength because without Robertson that left side looks week

I don't want to trade Robo unless its another scoring winger coming back. I don't see a RD out there worth Robo. Definitely not Dobson. He'd be less effective here with no PP time. The RD they need is not a top scoring one. They need a steady, all around defender like Rasmus Andersson.

What I was told:

Dumba
Marchment
JRob

Those are the three that may move.
JRob gets you the best return and opens up more cap space.
They want out from Dumba so I bet he's the one who goes for sure.

Going to be an interesting/fun off-season from a moves point of view for the Stars.
I'd assume if we fall short of a cup, and lets be real with our d-core it's a real possibility, they would move the first 2 as that opens the most cap space (8.25m vs 7.75m) and gives us a 2nd year to run it back.

Marchment's production and play is much easier to replace than someone like Robertson.
Dumba can be replace by a mannequin, for, how much do mannequins cost $100?

I mean if you go into the offseason and you're plan is to open cap space by trading a 30g/ppg player, you still need to replace that production somehow. And there's not a lot of players making less than 7.75 that will come close to doing that. Even fewer than would be available for trade.

Robertson is 19th in the NHL in goals, and 21 in points currently, so by all accounts you're talking about a top 25 forward

You'd be trading him for futures or taking on 3-4 players making 2+m and be no better off that having a top 25 forward in the NHL anyway

I think you could find a team that'll give us a 4th or 5th for Marchment + Dumba together.

Be happy with the depth they have right now.

It's easier to rebuild a skill guy as a grinder than turn a grinder into a skill guy.

It is far harder to load up your team with perfect players for every position, and teams make due with what they have or can acquire from the depleted UFA market.
