Welp I guess management's odd obsession with Marchment is confirmed. Again the point is likely moot if there's an agreement that Seattle takes Drieger but it's got to be noted that this strange love affair is no longer just speculation.

I just hope this doesn't effect our line combos for next season. Watching Marchment shoehorned into first line minutes at the expense of guys who actually put points on the board is going to be frustrating.

Funny how just about every coach falls in love with one random player against all logic and reason.

MM brings something we don't have much of. I am the leader of get MM off the top line club, hated it every time. But he is far more valuable than someone like Vatrano.

Oh I agree, I like having him on the roster and what he brings to the ice. I'm just wary of Q's newfound boy-crush. Putting him in the top line, like he did several times last season, is a poor allocation of assets.

Yes, better skating would be great for him. He reminded me of a bull in a China shop watching him ping pong around. Haha

From my point of you it was rather his none-existing shooting skills. He is no danger at all when he gets to a shooting position, semi-breakaway or breakaway. Duke is so much more dangerous, he belongs more on the 1st line than March, his speed meshing better with Verhaege and Barky.

March is good at creating for the others with his physical play, he is more than fine on a 3rd line.

Ya he's just choppy, clumsy and labored when skating. Reminds me a bit of Boyle in that sense.
Still young enough to get better though and improve his odds of chipping in 6-8 goals and 25ish pts on the 3rd line.

Could definitely earn himself another deal, whether here or elsewhere if he puts in the work now. Q seems to love the guy so he will get his chances

I think if you want a team to be hard to play against, you need those kinds of players throughout the line up, not just in bottom 6 roles. Marchment's shown he can have some potential playing up in the line up, so I don't see any problem giving him more chances higher up. Vatrano's had his chances and has shown very little.

Yup basically. March is the option until we get someone better.

I think someone pointed out the fancy stats last year that showed while March doesn't produce much offense, he doesn't prevent Barky and Verhaeghe from producing either.

So the 1st line is still legit with him on it, and we can put Duke on the 2nd or 3rd to increase their fire power.

With Duke, they were a dynamite dominating line. Hardly any line in the league that could match their speed, one of the best first lines in the league. March should just be the backup plan if one of the wingers gets injured

you missed his lovely finish in game 5, i guess?? his movement on that play was spot-on.

skip to 5:30.

although he shows decent hands at times, i don't think any of us expect him to be a playmaker. i do think he can be more than a mule, though.

protecting him perhaps is a way of sending a message to both marchment and the team - "this is the type of determination we expect."

Hope Marchment will work on his skating in off-season, that would help him since he has decent hands/dangles, adding some speed and better agility could boost his offense and ability to forecheck.

Real happy that Mush is being projected. We have to remember last season was basically his first full Pro season in the NHL. Clearly Q sees something, we should trust in him. I've said it before, Mush has some slick hands like a really green Huby. Plus he's not afraid to throw the body. Doesn't hurt either that he's been appointed the funniest guy on the team and great in the room.
As mentioned prior, hopefully he works on his skating this summer, but being a short summer, we will have to see.

Yeah, he has decent finish. No doubts about that. His first goal of the regular season was also nice.

Good point for sure, he's still adjusting to the pace and speed in NHL.
Maybe he becomes tight with Barkov in the gym and work his core/legs together while fine tuning the fundamentals of skating.

Barkovs skating is way more explosive than years past. Even Ekblad improved and all 3 of those guys are 6'3 or taller.
Rare for the big boys to be smooth and fluid but always good to see guys put in the extra work to improve on things.

Duke trained with McDavid and Matthews this past offseason and you could tell he took his game to a new level.
Surround yourself with the elite guys and you're bound to be better.

I’m guessing the reason we protected Bob is because it’s required to protect a goalie and Knight/Montenbault don’t count towards roster protection?
Bob has a full NMC and had to be protected, according to the rules. He could have been asked to waive it, just for the draft, but wasn't asked/didn't waive.
