Tallon was a little handcuffed as Barkov, Ekblad and Huberdeau took until year 6-7 of his 10 year tenure to be in their primes and it wasn't worth it back then as you said, going up against prime CHI, LA, TB, WSH, PIT etc. We just weren't there skill/development/depth wise.

But now, it feels wide open for a team in our division. that is close to contending to make a couple big moves and push past the 1st round.

I agree, we just have to be smart. I think our 2021 or 2022 1st should be on the table, as well as one of Deni/Hepo/Gildon/ Ludvig/Koly. But no more than that.

I would have done this for Yandle, less of a cost than I thought.

Zito should have been open to retaining a bit on Yandle but ya it would have been similar cost?

Yotes with SIX 2nd rounders in the next two drafts but they are missing their 2021 1st, we could help them out with that for Garland.

We've never done it so how do we know?
If the Stralman move to ARI has any traction, that signals he's definitely adding another D for sure.
Just saying, we have the space/assets to add if need be.

I just think that Garland for Deni seems like another Erat-Forsberg trade. There will be better options if Zito really has to eject Deni from this ride.

To me it seems odd that Seattle would take Driedger when they can take someone else and then agree in principle and sign him during FA, but maybe they want to make sure they get him?

I'd imagine bat, from Seattle's POV, the concern would be that if they didn't commit to him via the expansion draft, and let Driedger get to full FA; in order to sign him at that time his market value would then have been set by another team. This could conceivably be at a number more than they believe his worth to be, $ and term.

At that point, they would either have to match that offer, or stand the chance of losing him. If they think he's their best option in net going forward, in their eyes it's not worth the risk.

Meh, they're dealing with the same flat cap that everyone else is.

If they don't want to take on another $2+ mill for a scrub like Vatrano or a #6 Dman like Gudas, why bother?

Just take Dreidger and get out with the goods.

Maybe Zito made a deal to not trade his rights so the Kraken could have exclusive negotiating rights. There were rumors going around his rights would be traded but that never happened.

Timeline doesn't work in Francis' favor for that. Seattle has the window to guarantee they get him. If they don't sign him during the window, Zito trades Judge's rights after 7/21 and Seattle risks losing him him elsewhere. The timeline is 48hr window, then ED, then UFA on 7/28.

I don't have a strong opinion either way on Denisenko or Garland, but I think this is an odd comparison.
Erat was a post-prime rental. Forsberg was a very highly regarded prospect who was less than a year removed from sliding well past where fans thought he should have been taken in the draft.
Garland is a 25-year-old late blooming winger and RFA. Meanwhile Denisenko is a (formerly) blue chip prospect who may or may not be ready for a top 9 role at an age older than Forsberg was when he put up 63 points.

Swaggy - Sasha - Duke
Huby - Sam - Tipper
Tank - Wenny - Horny
Lomborghini - Starman - Cookie

Weegs - Ek
Fors - Butcher
Yands - Strals

Judge
Bob

The majority of these at least either make sense by being an immediate shortening of the actual name (Duke, Sam, Weegs, Ek, Bob), or by going the strict old-school-hockey route and simply adding y at the end (Huby, Horny).

Names like Swaggy and Soupy and Starman and Cookie are just cringe inducing and I will literally die on this hill.

Butcher is cool though.

but I think this is an odd comparison.

But an apt comparison nevertheless. Erat was past his prime was still producing at a similar rate to Garland and the Caps' mgmt thought for whatever reason that Forsberg isn't going to pan out which is the same case with Deni when you think that he "may or may not be ready for a top 9 role at an age older than...". I think it's rather amusing that at the time of the draft he couldn't speak English at all and now ppl are wondering why he has taken so long to make the trip from the KHL.

During the previous expansion draft, teams were worried Vegas would pull this and the league assured that they're keeping an eye on their communications etc. to ensure it won't happen. So I'd imagine Seattle gets the same treatment.

Shortly put, it would be illegal.

Seattle could end up picking Tarasenko, Price, Landeskog, RyJo/Duchene... Ron Francis praising the God of Cap Squeeze and Internal Disputes.
